an 08, thirty thousand K's..kilometer, when pushing starter button, turns, then a long pause, then turns and starts. Takes time back to ONe, and zero's out trip odometer. Battery is at full charge, had it recharged when season started a couple weeks ago. Put it on trickle last night. Green light came on right away. Battery post connections seem fine, plenty tight, have vests connected to posts, keeps it all tight..

Check the grounds under the seat. Also mine was doing a similiar thing, the charger I had also indicated a good battery. Turned out to be the battery. You might get Autozone to do a load test checking for a bad cell.

In addition to checking the grounds, which I also recommend, you might want to check the battery. Last year my battery seemed fully charged and the tender always showed a green light, but the bike was behaving like yours. I messed with all the grounds and was not able to cure the problem.

I was thinking I would have to hunt down some funky electrical bug that would take me forever. Before I jumped into electrical gremlin huntin' mode, I decided to hook the jumper cables from my car to the bike just to see if it was a weak battery. The bike fired right up, no hesitation at all. It was the battery all right, replaced it and the problems went away.

These AGM batteries do not like to be fully drained which I did last spring when I accidentally turned the key past the lock position one day at work. Needed a jump to get the bike started. The battery lasted for about 4 months after that, but I could tell there was a steady progression of the battery getting weaker. I just never realized what the problem was until I replaced the battery.

Thanks guys..after reading this, I went to the battery place..took the battery out, they load tested it. It was way over anything they said they had in there brand new at the cranking power..400, whatever it is..Not mechanical here. So, in their opinion the battery was as new, and it could not be the battery..they said it had more power than I needed. Think by that he meant that they had a harley in, and that battery was considerably lower than this one.
So, I think based on that intel it is not the battery. that would seem to be the obvious. Now what..guess start trying to track it. Or leave it til I am in for the next warranty check, and have them do it. It is still on warranty for another year.

Damn, this happens to me also recently. I use my trip odometer to verify how much fuel I have as my damn low fuel warning light is always on! Now that the trip odometer "sometimes" resets when I start the bike, I have resorted to using the main odometer so I know when I may be low on fuel. (My rule of thumb is to fill up just past 150 miles. That keeps me pretty safe.) Anyhow, is there a battery that packs the most punch and fits this application that you guys would suggest? I have also heard something about a Star connector. WTF is that? I heard that may be the reason my bike hesitates when I try to start it. I also have issues when it is cold outside that my bike won't turn over at all, so a battery change is definitely on the short list. What battery manufacturer and model do you fine gentlemen suggest as a solid replacement?

Yeah, what Jonsocal said..I too use my trip meter for a gas gauge. So, the battery people said it was not the battery..guess I could get one and try it just incase, but an expensive experiment. Star Connector.??? Starting to think it might be the starter switch itself..seemed to work better today, but for some reason noticed I was pushing harder on the starter button..like hard. Seemed to help, but then after about four starts, it paused again. WTF!!..

Does it ever reset its self when you turn the handlebars from left to right?

If it does.... check the #13 wire on the instrument cluster. Its the black wire/ground

Mine was not working so I spliced it at the instrument cluster and ground it at the front of the frame between the forks.

Works like it should now.
