With the weather finally getting warmer in the UK, and starting to increasingly notice the Uly's heat, I decided to get my comfort kit installed. The thought of installing the fan duct had put me off for some time, I must admit. After reading all the many posts on here I went for the shortcut option of just removing the frontmost trunk pan screws and bending the pan.

After the customary long period of swearing and frustration I managed to work the duct into place, or at least what seemed like into place - there's no telltale sign it's done right when you can't see under the pan, but it seems to be seated correctly and forming a decent seal at the front.

I'm uncertain about the routing of the preload adjuster cable. I poked it through the hole per the instructions, so it routes from inside the duct to outside and then closed the clasp around it to hold it there. From there onwards the routing was less clear to me. Hopefully these photos will help me clarify.

So, photo 1 shows the cable routing through the clasp.

Notice a U shaped cutout to the right of the clasp. That's on the duct itself, but I can't see what it's for. Routing the preload cable back through that seems to make no sense as it would then be back alongside the suspension spring, but there doesn't seem to be any other reason for that cutout.

The next photo shows the cable going past a 90 degree cut in the duct, which I used to hook the cable around. The two screw holes are what the preload adjuster screws into.

The last photo shows the routing with the adjuster in place...

It seems OK to me, but the bend radius of the cable is pretty tight around there.

So, does this routing look correct? What's that other cutout for and should I be using that to route the cable back inside the duct before bending around to the adjuster? It's not easy explaining this stuff, but hope it makes sense.

If you look at this area from the other side, you'll see a notch in the shroud. That's where the cable should route through the shroud.
Actually, your first picture shows the notch.

Hmmm, not sure I agree. Take a look at the duct in this photo...

You can see two cutouts on the top of the left side. The one closer to the front of the duct is the one I think the preload cable goes through because it can then go through the clasp. If you routed out of the cutout in my first photo you wouldn't be able to do that. So that cutout must be for something else - hence my confusion.

That was the only question I had as I installed mine also. Once you get the cover over top of that adjuster so that it fits into the U shaped notch, it will all relax and fit into place nicely.

It goes through both notches. Out the first, into the clip, and back in the second, if I recall correctly.

Thanks both, that makes sense. Looking again at the part on the table above, the 'wings' of the duct curve round a full 90 degrees. I don't think mine is curving round that far on the left side (maybe caught on something?) so when I tried putting the adjuster cable through that second cutout it looked like it might foul on the rear spring. I'll try re-routing again - at least I don't have to take the whole thing apart again to do so! : )

I just kind of lifted the left outer edge over the adjuster cable and it popped into place. Make sure it is warm when you do it.

OK, so I loosened the fuel hose and twisted it, as it appears others have done. This enables the lower left hand corner of the duct to move further left. I still can't get the preload hose through the second notch because there's too much line down there.

As you can hopefully see, the preload adjuster hose is tightly kinked and still won't sit in the rearmost notch - there's too much hose there. So it looks like I need to pull the hose back up so there's less of it at the adjuster end. I'm stumped on how to do this without taking the whole lot apart again! Anyone got any tips on how I might be able to grab the hose at the top end to pull it back?

Maybe the kink isn't an issue for this type of cable? It's a hydraulic hose, right?

Right, just in case anyone is still reading : ) I think I've established that the preload adjustment hose on my bike is just a little too long. The only way I could find to get the cable to route properly through the second (rearmost) notch is to undo the clasp on the duct between the two notches. This gives me a much looser bend radius between the notches.

I reckon that should be fine now - time will tell. Am I the only one who hit this problem with the installation? Anyway, hope this is some small contribution to the great 'retrofit comfort kit' series. : )

Like I said, when I did mine it snagged me for a few minutes. Once it popped over it fell into place and made sense, until it did that none of the angles from where I looked at it, made sense. 'tis but a tight little fit!
