So, I currently have the engine rotated doing some maintenance.... noticed that there was a leak at the rear rocker box.
(yes, i know this should probably be in the knowledge vault.. but always get quicker responses here).

Bear with me (non mechanic here) .. there is a cylinder , lower rocker box, upper rocker box (yes?).. The gasket between the cylider and lower rocker box is the culprit.

My question....can I only remove the lower and upper rocker box and replace those gaskets or do I need to do everything?

Thats the one??

So.. my questions...

Can I just remove the rocker box and replace that gasket with out screwing up the gasket on the base of the cylinder?

Does the rocker box come off in 1 piece or does it come off in two parts (upper/lower)?

Never done this before.. so just making sure.

You will not disturb your lower cylinder gaskets.
Every easy job, having the piston at TDC is easier on the rockers, less spring tension.
OK, top rocker cover, four allen screws, pull it off and the two rubber gaskets should be ok.
Lower RB cover has three different fasteners, two allen, two 7/16” head bolts and four ½” head bolts. Remove them in that order. If you remove the push rods remember to put the same ones in the same holes, intake and exhaust, different sizes.

Rocker box leaks get all over and can look like something else is leaking.

Is the bike running bad?

I've been having an intermittant issue that is slowing getting more consistant.
Bike hesitates/sputter etc.. when you roll off the throttle and then hold it steady.
If you accelerate.. seems to be fine.

maybe it is the head gasket than. If you go that far and change the head gasket you should change the cyl base gasket also. When you remove the four head bolts the cylinder is than loose also. if you don't change the base gasket, it will leak in a few thousand miles.
