Not sure what to do here?
I have an 08 Uly with the full rider confort kit installed (BTW, thx for all of your posts regarding the instalation of the fan cowling, it made installing mine a snap, I was done the full install of the kit in about 2hours without issues), and now I have to decide what i want to flash it with?? or keep the stock flash??

I like to ride at low RPMs, 2800-3800, so I do get some anouging surging, also, I commute 2-up through thick traffic everyday to work and back so the bike will cook in the summer.

Also, do I have to order a flash or will my clueless HD dealer have one?

thx

Matt, I have decided that I will leave my ECM factory stock for now. I have installed the comfort kit and so far, it works quite well but I have not ridden it in the heat yet. Doesn't get hot in MN until July or later. The bike runs fine with the exception of feeling slightly lean at 3 to 4,000 revs.
I will only do the re-flash if I feel it is really necessary because no matter how much you are willing to spend, you can't go back to the old flash. Or so I've been told. My dealer said they would do the re-flash for $35.00 but did not recommend it. They said they have had some complaints from customers who have had it done. Please let us know what you decide and post results if you make a change. Thanks.

There is no ordering flashes, the dealer hooks up the bike to their computer, the computer says a new calibration is available, and it downloads it.

The Race ECM comes with the same fan control logic.

Thx froggy,
Seems to me that thier is no advantage in not getting the race ECM??

Where does the computer hookup to the bike?

I'd vote for the race ECM, there ARE advantages. Mine has been on my 09 for about a week now, and I like the running much more now-better low/midrange, faster revs, smoother throttle response. However, the race ecm comes programmed with the new fan logic, so you have no choice about that. I'll wait till it gets hot here in TX to decide if I like it better than the old fan logic. Money well spent.

Money well spent? did you have to pay for the actual ECM? or are you refering to the labour?

Matt-

I bought the race ECM from Erikbuellracing.com, and installed it myself.

Oh I see...
If I got this correctly, you boght a new module (Hardware not software), removed the stock black box under the seat (the ecm) and replaced it with your new one.

Added benefit of beeing able to go back to the stock one if need be. Although you did have to deal with the hard to get in front ECM screw. right?

Portero...I would buy your old ECM if you would ever sell it with the old fan logic. It is an 09 right?

Matt-

Correct, had to pull the battery tray, etc. But its much easier the second time. I also replaced the locknut with a regular nut glued in place, and a lock washer under the ecm block(added benefit of raising the block that much more).

Eulysses-

Gonna hang on to the stock ecm FOR NOW. I've honestly only had the race ecm in for 100 miles or so, and I might just keep the stock for backup reasons.

Race ECM, for sure. I just got back from my first ride with the EBR ECM and my bike is finally running properly. Clean all over from down low until it bounces on the rev limiter. No 3-4K surge that I could detect. Pulls from 2k in fifth. $250 well spent.
