none hear on an 08xt except the windscreens produce a lot of turbulence. getting the palmer brackets and a taller windscreen took care of it. and right now, i love it.

Mine has a bad habit of enticing me onto roads that I and It don't belong

I read here that you should get the newest year that you can afford as each year there were some improvements

No bad years, but newer is generally better. A complete list of updates can be found here:

Paralegalpete - How come there are more pictures of it napping than riding? I have never had an issue with trying to follow buddies on bikes with knobbies! Third gear an momentum will get you through anything.

Having owned an 06 (totalled) - an 08 (exchanged) and now an 09, I would say either look for an 06, 07, 09 or 10. The issues I had with the ecm and electronics with my 08 were very frustrating to say the least. No ill towards happy 08 owners!

"Third gear an momentum will get you through anything."

Not necessarily.

09 XT - only problem at 7k was a fried coil that was replaced under warranty.

Unfortunately the third gear theory has not always worked, All three of my Uly's have taken dirt/gravel/mud naps.

Isn't it funny how far a Uly will slide on its side when on ice?

I have an '06, and I've had minimal problems. The worst was the rear bearing failure, and that was fixed the same day. 30,000 miles.

There are advantages reported to having an 06/07 and then again the 09/10. I was intending to trade my 06 this summer for a 2010, but that does not apear to be an option now. The 10's have everything that I would like, so if they were available that is what I would get.

The most significant improvement is the '10 rear wheel. Which will retro fit any year '06~'09.

I love my '06, wouldn't trade it for newer even if I had the chance (and I've had many chances).

Ratbuell-Been following your posts for awhile, didn't you just get dumped? If so how you doin. Now back to thread, you have any problems w/your 06? I have worked on making mine more long term dependable, just swapped out the #46 and #77 plug for solid connections, have new '10 wheel and bearings, did check and PM on fuel pump wiring, reroute of wiring over cyclinder head, inserted little boot over wiring at steering head to prevent chaffing, Lyndal pads for front rotor, clutch cable stand off bracket, guage to access charging system while bike running, and I have spare front isolator to replace when needed. anything else you can think of? Plan on keeping my "collectors item" for along time. I am even going to order some of the Yellow boddy work so that I can keep the pristen Black with "American Motorcycle" logo as good as new (plus I like the Yellow).

I broke the belt at just shy of 12k miles (sub-freezing, hard 1-2 shift merging on the highway with a cold belt, my fault), and while it was in there for that I had them replace the seeping-for-three-days base gaskets before the warranty ran out.

That's it.

Kuryakyn voltmeter tells me I have plenty of juice even at idle with aux lights and heated clothes and grips and GPS. Changed all signals to LED (1125CR mirrors, homebuilt rears) and American Sport Bike LED flasher. Rwven passenger peg mounts. CeeBailey 14" windshield in winter, stock shorty above 50 degrees. Syn3 fluid since 1k service. Black seal bearings in the original 2 bearing rear wheel; OEM orange seal bearings up front (black seal set on the garage wall). D616 tires. Journey saddlebags with HB 50L Junior (Journey) topcase. Comfort kit. Just pulled the Drummer and replaced the stock muffler and ECM, with K&N with '07 style inner airbox. Aux lights mounted where front signals were.

I've checked the 77, no issues on mine. I run all belt guards. Fuel pump...I don't mess with anything if it ain't broke, especially if it's that far "in" to the bike. If it goes, it goes, and I'll fix it. I carry a spare clutch cable, the large Buell toolkit, going to get a spare belt, and I have a 4-CO2-bottle tire plug kit under the seat.

Oh. And I've never washed it : )

That's when I ride in rain : )

Considering there's no shiny or dark surfaces on it...it really doesn't get all that bad. I keep up on light lenses and mirrors, and that's about it.

Oh he is not kidding about not washing it.

One of the cool subtle things about the earlier Ulys is the parts match the color of road dirt and grime.

I did help him wash it (his method) over the Cherohala for Buelltoberfest. It rained for miles.

In my defense, though - and Vern can back this up - I *do* know how to keep bikes clean. He's seen my S2 in person. It, my S1, and my CR all stay clean. My Uly...is like my Jeep. My beater, 155k mile, '92 Wrangler with half-top and half-doors.

I *think* it's white : )

I can tell you gents love your buells,I've been eye ballin the uly's for sevral years.

Rite now I'm try'n to finish my DR 650 then it's time to start lokin for a Uly, I want something that can handle some on/off road tour'n and that can do it 2 up from time to time.

When I first saw the uly I thought "the perfect bike, time tested motor, cuttin edge innovation, killer looks and American made", how can ya go wrong with that ?

But my concern is how available are the parts gonna be in the future ? probably I'm gonna get one anyway, just ride the wheels off of it, and in years to come look at it and say, "damn good bike, harley really screwed up when they cut Buells throat, dumb asses".

Major mechanical stuff (engine bits, gasket sets, etc) are readily available and will either be available or substitutable (using XL bits if needed) for a long time.

The aftermarket has picked up the rest:

American Sport Bike
erikbuellracing.com
and many, many more specialized vendors like kdfab.com (drummer exhausts), etc.

Like I always say - ride, smile, repeat : )
