Funny story, I read conflicting articles about the dual compound versus single, so I called up Pirelli, according to them, these are Single Compound tires.

Now, I would MUCH prefer them to be dual, so I guess I can just hope that the guy I talked to was ill informed.

They feel just fine on road. Will have to do some off road testing soon.

Have fun! And let us know how they do off road, if they work a little better than the Syncs I'll throw one on the rear soon...

I will let you know how they do off road, but I can almost guess exactly what I'm going to experience. The fault with these bikes off road isn't really the tires, it's the sheer weight, and 17" front.

If I were to place bets, I'd say:
They'll do just fine in the dry/solid stuff, but they'll suck in anything deep or wet/muddy. I won't be testing them on anything 'technical', just dirt and gravel roads.

But regardless, I'll report back.

THOSE ARE SOME THICK SOMDABEACHES AIN'T THEY! I run those on the V Strom and get from 2500 to 3500 miles from a rear. The fronts can usually go 3 rear tires. These hold plugs rear well. Flatted rolling down the alley leaving on my fall arkansas ride. rolled back in the garage, plugged it and rode the 1800 miles of abuse and then finished it off with a nice hard 3oo mile day on chip seal. Let us know what ya think. I love them on the Strom. I am also loving my Angel St's. Much better handle than the Syncs. 600 miles and only .030 wear. That may be a 5000 mile rear. YE HAWwww. The Sync didn't make 2000 miles.

Those are gonna end up on the bike Vampress is riding to Homecoming.

If it is, we couldn't tell when we mounted it.

The bummer is, we both forgot to compare the weight of the Strada to the Trail before we mounted them.
The Harbor Freight tire changer worked ok. I need to get a Nar Mar Bar or something like it.
We scratched the rear rim a little fighting with the bar.

Skip the bar all together and just use 3 tire irons (the 7" pro-motion irons work great). Especially if you have a couple people, one to keep the tire in the V of the rim, and the other to lever it on the opposite side.

Their short length is useful to remind you that you are doing it wrong... If you are doing it right they are just the right size, if you are doing it wrong it won't work, and they are too small to do serious rim damage (though they can still scratch without rim protectors).

That being said, Alex had some nice tractor supply 18" or so irons, and he and I were able to easily mount up a D205 using just the irons and a piece of felt on his garage floor. We used his bench vise to break the bead (awkward, but it worked).

Did a little off-roading today on the way home from work. A Big construction site was left unattended, and is mostly hidden from view from the road.

It was all hard packed dry dirt. They seemed to do just fine, even when goosing it trying to get it to break loose (in a straight line), and then seeing the huge bump in front of me and slamming on the (mostly rear) brake, they didn't have an issue at all.

I did get stuck in a 6" deep tire rut that took some fancy maneuvering (listing lazily to the left) to get the front tire out of. But it was nothing dramatic.

For any more of an off-road review on these tires, we're going to have to find someone that actually knows how to ride off-road. I just putt around for the most part, and goose it when I see an opening.

I can speak more for the on-road performance, chicken strips are down to a quarter of an inch, and have yet to feel ANYTHING that worried me at all.

Alright so I couldn't help but go back. This time I went down into the dry creek bed, and out through some much looser dirt.

I easily broke the tire loose, but it kept on truckin and didn't hesitate for a moment going up the side of the creek bed and out through the loose stuff.

Ulynut

With this tire on my Dl 1000 Strom, I have taken turns at 110 mph on chipsealed two lane roads in the dry and the same turns at 95 mph in the rain with ZERO issues. Last year comming back from Arkansas we rode 250 miles in hard rain. Never had any issues. 100 plus in a straight line passing bunched up cars on the two lanes. I am more concerned with milage from them. I only get 2500 to 3000 on the Strom. Tough ass tire though.

Is there any cause for safety or fitment concerns when putting a 190 rear on a wheel meant for a 180?

I called my stealership today to see about ordering a new Trail rear, and they said, "There's a 150 and a 190, but no 180." Implying that I was S.O.L.

Would a dealer decline to put that 180 on my Uly?

I'm guessing that "it depends". I ran 180's on my M2 (supposed to have a 170) with no issues. They felt a little different, but not bad. Less significant then going from a flattened rear to a round rear.

But I put a 170 on the back of the Uly (flat in the middle of nowhere on a saturday night far from home, and Alex had a spare 170 to get me home), and the Uly handled like crap.

So until somebody tries it, we won't really know. I suspect it will work fine, given the profile is similar and you are going up a size rather then down a size... but I am watching for reviews before I drop the $$. : )

It works great. I cannot feel a difference between the 180 Strada's and the 190 Trails.

Whether a dealership will install it or not is up to them, but in most cases it is considered safe to adjust by 1 tire size.

The largest Avon Dystanza is a 160 and many people have used those without issue.
