On my way to work this morning the speedo stopped working while traveling down a straight road so it seems my left turn theory was simple co-incidence. (This is from another thread here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/547781.html?1268997996 ) To top it off this morning soon after the speedo quit the check engine light came on. Just prior to this the idle speed went up to about 1400 and the bike was running rough. When I arrived at work and shut the bike off the fan ran! I have the comfort kit and reflash. The air temp was about 45.

I've noticed that the forward connector on the ECM is cracked at the top where it joins the body of the ECM. Is this known to cause problems like this?

Rwven, I don't now about the specific problem you are seeing but on the 08's the vehicle speed sensor feed into the ECM on one of the connectors and the ECM has an output to the speed from the other connector.

If you have a crack in the potting compound where the connector meets the ECM it is possible you have the seat pressing on the connectors. Over time this pressure on the connector can result in broken circuit traces inside the ECM and all sorts of weird problems could result. The earlier Ulys had this issue and on later Ulys there is a spacer block mounted under the ECM front mounting screw to keep the seat away from the connectors. Some guys here have added a second block to make this more effective.

Did the check engine light result in a stored fault code?

Rays,

I don't know about the fault code, I'm at work and haven't been able to check it yet.

I do have the forward block, but no rear block. Maybe I need to lose a few pounds...:^)>

During lunch break today I tried to check for trouble codes. I jumpered across pins 1&2 in the diagnostic plug and turned the key on. The check engine light cycled on and off as usual and then nothing. If there is no code stored would I get the 6 query blinks with nothing between or would I get nothing?
