Well...Saturday draws near & my departure on 2 month, 15,000 mi motorcycle/fishing/camping trip. Down into mexico, across gulf states to Fla - up to Maine - across Canada - then home. There will be alot of meandering along the way - few freeways, mostly back roads. Debated as to take the Uly or the Tiger. Got both ready to go, since the Uly has left me stranded twice on long trips & we ended up with "trust issues". However...independent of her tempermental nature, she's getting the nod. Lost my "spare keys" (Ilco X270 blanks BTW) so had to ride her to find new spares. Rode the Tiger most the winter (fine machine) but when I got back on the Uly I remembered why, in spite of any short commings, I fell in love in the first place. I'll let ya'all know how it turns out. Have a wonderful Spring. j

Have a great, and safe, trip Jphish, and keep us posted. It sounds like you are taking a sorta-kinda SoCal Four Corners Tour but doing it the right way, stopping to smell the roses. Very cool. We'll be looking for your updates.

ps: I know what you mean about falling in love with a Uly. I rode today and kept thinking about all the reasons I really like my Uly.

Thanks for all the good thoughts folks. And yes, it is a modified leisurely '4 corners' route - but not in the alloted 21 days. I spent the last week getting the Uly road ready. New Belt, battery, brake pads, air filter, tires, bearing check, fluid changes, & all the adjustments - even washed & waxed her. "What could possibly go wrong" ? Thats almost as good as "hold my beer and watch this!". Anyway - have BRAN list available on riding partners laptop - hope I don't need it, except meeting for a beverage perhaps. He was leaving today to visit daughter in Ashland, (we'll meet up @ my Moms in Sonoma Sun) started his 1200GS yesterday and it was running on 1 cyl. Trip to Tacoma BMW revealed a dislodged throttle body. He's never made disparaging comments about my Uly (in fact, he likes it) so I didn't comment on the vulnerability of the panzerheads. I'm getting an iphone today, so will either send messages of joy & adventure...or SOS. For those that had to sit the winter out, take heart - the Vernal Equinox is almost upon us. Be careful out there. I'll send 'post cards' via iphone - once I figure out how to use the thing. (early BD present from my sweet thoughtful Wife)I'm still trying to figure out what the green lights on the voltage gauge signify. I'm one techno challenged dude. Chow' all. j

Have a fantastic trip and ride safe, looking forward to your updates. When you make it back to the Great Pacific Northwest, we need to get together with the rest of the PNWer's and ride some more.

Yeah - ya definately have to mind yourself down South. Though last year did a month on the KLR in Baja - so many military check points thought I had time traveled and was behind the old iron curtain. The Soldiers were always friendly and usually waved us thru to the front of the line. Only got "inspected" once in about a dozen stops. j

Have a safe adventure/trip...and if you need ANYthing - even a piece of floor to crash on and a garage to wrench in, or just someone to have a beer with - when you're in Maryland, drop me a note. Kim and I have an open-door policy : )

Hey All - Thanks for your generous offers. It's reciprocal for any Buellers that get out this way...at least after late May when I'm back. Or, if you get here before me, just kick the door in, open the fridge, and drink the beer before it goes bad. PM me for alarm code. Loaded the Uly today - could hear the kickstand groan. Looks like the clampits leaving town. No worries - as it all fly's off the bike will get lighter. I'll stay in touch - once I figure out how to actually use this iphone. TTFN, j

I second the warning to be very very careful down in Mexico. I recommend looking at the US Dept of State website because they just posted a new travel warning for Americans traveling to Mexico, particularly the border states of Mexico. They are having a particularly hot go along the Texas/Mexico border. Be careful.

Yeah - we were informed by our wive's last night (I hate it when they communicate & conspire) that the provisional permission for trip will be recinded if we go south of the border. They also decided they are going to fly out to Florida & meet us @ half way point for inspection of any unhealed wounds & signs of debauchery. Where's the trust?? They infered 2 mos was way too long for either of us to be without adult supervision. I countered with "I'm 62 now, how much longer before I'm considered an adult ?" She suggested I reflect on my past 40 years of quantified misadventures, from USMC days to present... thus thought my question rhetorical. Darn attorneys. Anyway - even with new 'restrictions' we blast off tomorrow. My riding buddy's an iphone whiz - if there is a way to post pics I'll send some to BWB. Chow' all, j

Jealous, envious, and looking forward to pics.

Have floor and garage space and a complete lack of technical expertise in southern Wisconsin if it's needed.
