So this topic comes up every so often with no real solution each time (from what I recall at least). So for those of us who bought a Uly with only the side cases, what options do we have for a topcase and rack? I would really like the stock top rack, but Buell/HD were not selling these separately the last I checked. I recall a while back someone on here trying to order the individual parts from their dealer with no luck. Wondering if things have changed? Any Froggy magic part numbers? Any sponsoring dealer here on Badweb able and willing to get the pieces needed (at a reasonable price)? Looks to me the best solution so far without going nuts (read spending $$$$) is to buy a Palmer rack and affix a topcase to that. You lose the ability to quickly remove the topcase, but at least you get the topcase. Thoughts anyone? |

Just picked up an 07 and it already had the caribou cases (pelican) on them. Just the sidecases. They are great so far and really strong. Much more so than stock. Not to bad in price really either. cariboucases.com |

My magic part numbers only help you if you already have a top case and need to replace something damaged. Here is what one of the crappy online sites say:
quote:You cannot get this item unless you are replacing one that is damaged or lost. If you do not own one do not bother ordering one. We will require proof of damage loss or theft and your V.I.N. before we will order this for you.
Still, I can dig up all the part numbers and see if you can get lucky. |

These two links have info you want I believe. I want racks too but money is tight. I think you can still order from your dealer. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/512982.html?1258782488 http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/521945.html?1260997521 |

when I bought my 06 new it only had side cases, after a couple months had past and I wanted the top case the dealer (classic motorsports travrse city mi.) had to make a few phone calls to HD to verify that the bike indeed have side cases. It took a few weeks but they made it happen. |

Mild thread-jack: I have a set of Givi racks on the way. I plan to replace the stock racks and bags on my XT (top and side) so I can use a set of Givis that I've had for a while. Maybe I should make a thread of it (with pics) when I do the deed. The top rack is alleged to allow full use of the triple tail, unlike the stock set up. |

Froggy, looks like you (and Court) have done the legwork for this already. Thanks for the links Mike. I remember going through those threads, but did not recall a solution (or maybe at the time I didn't care as much as I do now about getting a topcase) So this is what I was able to glean from those threads. Since almost any (or maybe all) HB topcases will fit, seems to me only items 2 through 10 are needed. If you want to try to source your own fasteners and washer, you really only need 2 and 3 from HD. At least that is how it appears to me. Curious if my local dealer will be able to order these. Item Description (Quantity) Part Number 1 Top case Not Sold Separately (M0926A.1AU) 2 Mounting bracket, lower Not Sold Separately (M0261.1AU) 3 Cross bar mount Not Sold Separately (92308-05Y) 4 Washer, Belleville (4) (9/16 O.D.) 7083Y 5 Washer, Belleville (2) (11/16 O.D.) 7082Y 6 Protective tape (3) 90118-05Y 7 Flange nut (2) (1/4-20) 7981 8 Hex head flange screw (2) (1/4-20 X 0.625 inch) 4536Y 9 Hex head flange screw (4) (1/4-20 x 1.0 inch) 4537Y 10 Hex head flange screw (2) (5/16- 18 x 1.0 inch) 4567Y |

#1 and #2 are the part numbers for the Outdoorsman case racks. There is a different part number for the Journey case stuff. They look similar, I don't know the actual difference off hand. |

The numbers are different, but the parts interchange. I have personally taken Outdoorsman bags off a bike and put them on a Journey bike, and vice versa. And yes, ANY H-B bag will fit the top rack. I run a 50L now, as opposed to the stock 42. Cavernous! I can fit 2 fullface helmets in there. Side note - ANY H-B sidecase will fit...on the OUTDOORSMAN racks, with the OUTDOORSMAN turn signal relocation kit. With Journey racks, they hit the signals and intrude on passenger leg/foot room. |

Well, I stopped by the local dealer and they were able to order everything on the list except items #9 and #10 which did not show up in their system. No questions asked or hard time given. I didn't need to provide a VIN or proof of citizenship or anything. We will see how long it takes though since he said they are not in inventory and will need to come from the supplier. He seems to think 2-4 weeks, but we will see. So if anyone else was curious about this, the total for items #2 through #8 came to $266 and change. I want to get a different topcase (and didn't want to pay $300 plus more for that) and I am pretty sure I can find fasteners for Items #9 and #10. So Froggy. Do you have the Journey part number for item #2 - which is the upper mounting rack (main piece)? I am wondering what the difference is between the Journey and Outdoorsman kits that would require a different part # for the top rack? I know the Outdoorsman side racks are different (backward - well actually the Journey are backward) but that top rack doesn't appear to be any different. Looking at the expanded view for the Journey top rack here http://froggypwns.com/buellpdfs/Ulysses_side+topca se.pdf and the Outdoorsman top rack here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/521945.html?1260997521 I see no obvious difference between the two, looks to me like the top rack mounts independently from the side racks (no shared mounting points, etc) |

Thanks Ratbuell. I am actually thinking about getting the outdoorsman top case or something bigger for the extra space. I just want to be sure the Outdoorsman top rack (item #2) will fit up properly with the journey side racks. |

It may not be the best looking, but if you're serious about touring, it doesn't get much better than this. http://www.happy-trail.com/Products/Aluminum-Top-B ox--Canyon-Cut__HTB10-7-33.aspx |

Your dealer won't give you a hard time at the counter. The difficulty comes when the order is processed by SPOC; it will throw a "restricted" flag and they'll probably be in touch to verify that you do, indeed, have side cases (and side case racks) on the bike. |

Bad news from Hepco & Becker (the manufacturer of the side- and topcase) Talked to their Rep, a couple weeks ago, at the Munich Motorcycle show. They have a contract with Harley and they are unable and not willing to sell the Buell Rack or the Buell Topcase. You can get the Journey Topcase of course. You need to see your favorite Harley / Buell dealer to get spare parts or the rack. But they can`t sell it to you, because of stupid Harley regulations. That sucks! At least you can get the looks from H & B, if you not tell them you own Buell sidecases. Ride safe Werner |

Is there any substitute for the protective tape used on the frames? HD wants over $3 a piece for it. Maybe there is something similar at the big box stores? |
