I've got a 2006 Uly and I'm going on my fourth fork service due to the seal on the caliper side continuously failing. As the leak is always on the caliper side, I suspect that the gigantor Ulysses fork guard is prohibiting airflow and allowing brake dust to settle on the fork lower. Then it gets pulled into the seal, and the seal fails. Does this ring logical?

I'm considering popping some "speed holes" into the fork guards to increase airflow.
Any thoughts?

I was thinking about those. I did a little research and wound up with some Seal Savers. Where the DirtSkins have a velcro seam, the SealSavers don't. That makes 'em harder to take off, but less likely to fail. $20 worth of prevention, I guess.

Has anybody else run into this problem?

The first time I changed the fork oil I noticed that the oil on the caliper side was dirtier than on the non-caliper side. Stuff does get through the scraper. This is why I change it every 10K miles.

Does to me. Mine first blew the right side, then again before I noticed the pits at the bottom of the right stanchion where crap from the stock pads had been collecting. No I don't wash my Uly often.

Fixed the braking with Lyndall Golds and the seal contamination with Moose Racing ForkSkins:







Close to 40K on the seals now with no problems. By coincidence I'm about to hit the garage today for a complete fork service.

Done with the fork service, I can't speak highly enough about the ForkSkins. 40K on the seals with 20K on the fluid and the tubes looked great and the drained fluid looked new. No sign of seal leakage and absolutely no wear on the bushings. Great investment.

Found this old thread mentioning Moose Racing ForkSkins. Do they manage to stay in place once zip tied? When the forks are compressed do they balloon out in the center or stay somewhat tight against the fork tube? Haven't been on this board much the past several years since I sold my Uly. Thanks
