I had my VR replaced about 8-10K miles ago. the #77 connector was shot. I replaced the connector w/sump-pump connectors. Now here is my problem.
when I start bike the indicated voltage is high 13's, when bike has warmed up voltage as indicated on Escort Radar Detector and also Garmin GPS drops to 11.7v. I unplug everything and just have the radar detector on and I get 12.0-1v regardless of RPM's. I think I shall start by looking at cables to battery, then check my sump-pump connectors where the #77 connector was. If these do not solve problem, any ideas as to what is next? Afraid it might be stator because of the fact that the voltage drops once the bike is warm.

I just went through the same thing, ended up replacing the VR and stator just to be sure. Good luck with it. Fortunately parts were readily available from HD.

Just replaced my VR and stator at about 17k.

You can test the stator with a voltmeter from the wiring harness near where the 77 connector is ( was )

could try checking the voltage before the (77) connector also. Before the VR was replaced I had my 77 go bad and even after a taking it apart, cleaning ect I found the voltage on output side was lower than on the input side.

Took everything of the battery. cleaned terminals. Started bike got 13.7v at about 2500rpm. 12.2v at idle. ran bike till fan came on. going to test ride on tues and see if it continues to work as it should or if after several miles and the primary fluid and VR get hot if the problem reemrges.A friend is also bringing a good volt/ohm meter to work to let me use on tues night or wed to check out the stator. I lso did a search of this site and it seems as if buell has ficxed the VR and stator problem. Most problems seem to ocur to the 6 models and some 07's.

Anyone following this thread (particularly 06 and 07 owners) check my post in the Knowedge Vault Section under electrical and charging to see what I found out. Another gremlin that I have not read about before nor was able to find in any posts when I searched this board.
