I have a 2006 Uly (just got it a month ago and have only road it a couple of times, but love it so far) and I am headed on a trip in a couple weeks ( Savannah to the Florida Keys) and have a question. I purchased a Jardine exhaust, 07 airbox, K&N filter, and the ECM spy as well as a boatload of other goodies (pegs,GPS,racks and cases, windscreen, levers, ect.,ect.) so here is my question; can anyone tell me what exactly I will have to do after installing the filter, exhaust and airbox to ensure the bike runs correctly? Will the ECM spy take care of it all? I have never used it yet( the bike stays in Savannah and I am currently in MI) and I'm am a little concerned about screwing something up before heading out on the trip. I will only have a day or so to work on the bike and install everything when I fly down before leaving, but I sure would like to be able to install the goodies before going. Thanks for any advice.

I think if I were you, I'd wait on installing the exhaust, airbox and filter. When I did mine (Buell race kit with exhaust, filter and ECM) it was pretty much bolt on. But if you're going to be using the stock ECM, I think it will take some tuning to get it right.

JMHO,

Dennis

It is my experience that playing with the ecm takes time. You probably won't get it 100% to your liking the first time you adjust it. It takes time. I found that the hardest thing to get rid of was the pop on decel. I never got rid of it completely (using a K&N and a Special Ops muffler). If you get it close, you should be alright for the trip. Hope this gives you some help. If it were me, I would leave the filter and muffler alone until after the trip. It's not like it's going to be some night and day difference anyway. It will be louder to be sure, but the HP difference won't be significant. IMHO. Good luck.

+1 on everything stated above. Never make a whole lot of changes before a trip. You won't have enough time to dial it in so don't do it. Don't ask me how I know!!! Enjoy your vacation and don't set yourself up for a miserable ride. Just sayin...

Don't put on the exhaust before a long trip. I have a Drummer on my '06 (with K&N and race ECM) and while I love the sound around town...riding from Maryland to TN/GA/etc. in October, the exhaust drone really REALLY got to me. It was just too much.

Get used to the bike. THEN, make changes.

Thanks for the input. I will wait on the exhaust and filter for a better time. One last question, I was going to purchase the comfort kit and thought I had to do a re-flash to ensure everything functioned correctly but then noticed a post that states that no flash is required on the '06. Is this the case?

Correct: no reflash for the '06 - '07.

Its not that its not required, its because it can't be done on the 06 : )

+1 to all saying not to do anything, except maintenance, before a trip. I`ve learned this the hard way. Better off to take your time and dial it in. You will appreciate the heat this time of year w/o the comfort kit.
Ride well, and enjoy!

++1 To all the great advice!

The airbox/filter is easy and quick, but would only do it if I were doing a complete maintenance and changing out the plugs. - Already ready have airbox off at that point.

Use your time to get your luggage/gear ready. It can take longer to pack, and make sure you've got everything, than you think.

I've spent the last two nights before a trip of a 1000+ miles up until 4-5 in the morning because I decided to dig into mods & upgrades that were not necessary. - Then forgot to pack something because I was so exhausted...

Anyway, I believe you'll have a great time, and think it's wonderful you decided to get a Uly. Say hi the the Florida Sun for me. My friends are going down there in a few weeks as well, but my wallet told me I'm not allowed to go : )

Thanks for all the advice. I will concentrate on the maintenance (brake pads, volt meter, oil), racks and luggage, and the little trinkets (pegs and gps), and leave the rest for a better day.
