I'm thinking of getting a handlebar bag for the Uly but wanted some feedback before I get on. If you have one, what do you think of it? Do you find it useful or does it get in the way. Has anyone ever had one stolen off their bike?

Thanks

""Pity the fool who screws with you Johnboy.""

Yeah, it's really hard to hit anything while wearing a helmet, holding it in your left hand, and riding down the road.

But hell, the noise alone frightens the hell out of 'em.

I would be afraid to carry a CW in the bag. Every time I leave the bike, I would want to take it out of the bag and put it on my person (to prevent it from being stolen). Someone would see me and call 911 "I saw a motorcycle dirtbag put a gun in his pocket and go into that store".

Years ago I was running an auto service business in the garage of a local gas station. One Friday night after work, I took a single shot 20 gauge into the garage to clean it. Within minutes the place was surrounded by cops : ( And that was before cell phones! Lucky all the cops knew me since I worked on the police cars : ).

Um, no weaponry, but I got the overpriced but very pleasant Touratech model to carry my cell phone while it charges off the dashboard plug. I think it's better than leaving the phone under the seat to roast while it charges from the rear plug. This assumes you don't already use the front plug for something else.

That's the only reason I use it, though I'm sure I'll put a granola bar in there someday and forget about it.

It doesn't really get in the way, but one guy I know has a handlebar bag/gear setup that truly covers the air intake. He was wondering why his Uly ran so rough...I pointed that out as a possibility.

It's not lockable, so if you head into the restaurant or bar, someone with zipperfingers might try and see what you've got in there.

Once the bag is attached it's not "easy" to remove quickly. you can add two tie wraps and make it very difficult to remove without wire cutters. I love mine, I keep a cheap flashlight, garage door opener fastrak transponder, ear plugs, and a knife in mine. the Glock is on my hip....

I have one... but don't love it. The main reason is it blocks the gas filler as you can see above.

Got the Touratech, garage door opener, ear plugs, camera. No problems with theft so far. Nobody wants to mess with the crazy biker. They all carry guns you know!

I have one and think it's great. Don't even realize it's there unless I want to use the little dash buttons, but, those are in such a horrible place anyway, it doesn't seem to matter much.
They're always on ebay from a dealer$24.95+shipping

Jim,
Some of us have modified the "flash to pass" button to actuate the toggle on the dash menu. This keeps you from fumbling around trying to hit that little bastard on the dash while riding with your fat warm gloves!

It took a while but I found it. This is the one I did but there are links to others on there if you need more info. There is no meat in the beginning of the thread as it was right after Buelltoberfest last October so a lot of inside joking going on. About half way down I finally got around to doing something. You will have to hit "next" at the bottom to continue the rest of the thread.

I guess for those of us who don't have a garage (yet) and have to leave the poor Uly out on the street under a cover, the handlebar bag might not fare well in the elements. I only use mine if I know I'm going to need it.

God I want a garage.

Thanks for the passing light mod info. I think I'll look around for a police Uly and see if those controls have any extra switches I can use,... the H-D police bikes have extra buttons for the sirens and lights.

The police Uly has ONE extra button, it mounts on the front master cylinder bolts, it's a momentary switch. Single tap turns on the lights, rear only. Second tap turns on full perimeter lighting. Third turns them off.

Siren is tied in. Push the horn button with no lights on, the air horn honks. If the lighting system is on, press the horn button and it fires the siren on wail. Tap the horn button again and it changes tone. You have to double-tap the horn to turn off the siren.
