I just put on the heated grips and my 06 Uly is now my favorite bike. I want to do a couple more fixes and need some advice. Iridium sparkplugs worth it?
K and N airfilter worth it?
Breather hose reroute worth it?
Do any of these cause a TPS reset?
What do I need to do a TPS reset?

I like the Iridium plugs
I like the K&N but some do not
Breather reroute is good for a pony or two, so I say its worth it
A tps reset will not be needed for any of the above

What do ya need for a TPS reset, a laptop and the program and plug to do it....in other words, someone smarter than me...

I use the stockers (H-D even...better change that). Never fouled a one. Change every 10K miles.

I have run the stock plugs, the 'gold' plugs, and the iridium ones. The iridium wins if you want to go double the 10,000 mile change period.

The air filter, I run the stock one with a modified air box cover. I have washed it with soapy water and dried it twice in 45,000 miles. If I am going to spend $40 on the stocker I will trash it and spend the $60 on the K&N.

I have not moved my breather hoses, except to get them to stop rubbing the wires.

TPS reset seems like it needs to be done once during/after break in. After that if you change the ECM or if the throttle plates get dirty.

Re: Plugs. Misread the maintenance chart when new and didn't change the original plugs until 20k miles (red face here). They were still working fine, by the way. Installed H-D platinums for the next 20k. H-D platinums again (now at 75k total, 35k on this set, new H-D platinums on the shelf for replacement at 80k). Starting, performance and fuel economy all normal. These plugs are great. I have no reason to go with anything else.
I have always had issues with K&N filters. I think the only reason they flow more air is because the holes in the media are bigger. Which allows in more, larger dirt particles. Which the filter effectiveness tests I have read seem to bear out. They consistently have lower weight gain during testing than stock filters.

fouled the Irridiums at 10k mi. Putting in new ones. k&N check. Reroute without catch can check. TPS for fun check.

Just called the auto parts store and they have no listing for plugs for a XT just autolight.
Anyone have the NGK part numbers for the above plugs? Thanks Bill

I just use stock plugs. Changed at around 15k miles, still looked good, no fouling and gap within spec. I read in the early 80's in a MC rag about testing different air filters and the aftermarkets often did no tdo as well in filtering as the stock, they just did not capture the dirt as well. the ones with oiled foam around the filter worked better than the oiled filters. Take it fo rwhat it is worth.

All good advice. Not need to waste money and cause damage. I didn't know I could wash the stack air filter. I think I will mod the air filter housing and do the airhose reroute this weekend.

I am really enjoying the heated grips though. I might have to buy thicker gloves. The irony..
