Thinking of getting some for my 2008 XT. Any thoughts? Experiences?

Thanks!

Darkhorse Moto, get a set of both fork and swingarm sliders. The luggage will take the rest of the blow.

Whatever fits your wallet the best. I have crash tested the aluminum ones with derlin buttons on several occasions on several bikes. Hell, once I got all 4 corners to hit in one wreck : D

I have custom ones I've made out of billet aluminum to replace the bar ends and made sliders for the front and rear axles. I have a pic but it's on my phone and I don’t have the cable here to get them downloaded from the phone.

the early 06 folks made them out of skate board wheels. For tip overs and slow speed stuff they were claimed to work ok, particularly on rear. Much less expensive.

Here are the ones I'm running on my bike right now. These are all one of a kind, made out of 6061T6 aluminum.

Clutch bar end

throttle bar end

Here is one I made as a direct replacement for the factory ones. They all retain the hand guards. I'm going to sell these ones.

stock style bar end

small end 2

I bought some delrin ones off *bay when I first bought my bike in Jan '06. I think they are still selling sets (front & rear) for $20-30 complete. Try a search for "buell sliders"

They are a generic fix somebody put together but I've been happy with them for the price I paid. They've held up fine on my bike, but I have not seriously tested them yet (and I hope I never do).

Thanks Mnrider. I put a grove in the throttle side bar end for an o-ring (visible in the pic) to use as a throttle "lock". It does'nt lock it but it does create some friction but the mighty thunderstorm 1203's vibration eventually lets the throttle back off as you go down the highway. I'm thinking of trying a thicker o-ring when I find one.

These are all one of a kind sliders that I made.
Here is my right fork slider. my original intent was to make it look like a revolver cylinder by putting brass casings in it but I never got around to it.

right fork slider

left fork

left swingarm

right swingarm
