So my lovely wife tells me a little bit ago that if I could figure out how to come up with a creative way to pay for it, I could get a new bike. Well, I really wanted a 2010 Uly so I called all the dealers that had '10s listed on the Buell website and....all sold. So yesterday I called the closest Dealer that had a '09. After he got done describing the 3 XTs he had on hand, I mentioned that I really was after a '10. He responded with "Well, I have a 2010, but it's a X not a XT." SWEET!!!! So, I gave him a deposit over the phone and went there today and picked it up. Apparently, it was a corporate bike that they had to sell as a used bike with 747 miles on it. I am an extremely proud owner of a Sunfire yellow 2010 XB12X. Anyone want to buy my extra set of Sunfire Yellow plastics I just bought a couple of weeks ago for my '06?

My question to you all is: do I sell my Journey bags with my '06X or do I keep them and sell my extra top case? I just bought a brand new Junior 45 top case from a Badwebber a month ago and REALLY like it. I haven't had a single problem with my Journeys, but I'm not real confident in them either.

Any suggestions or opinions?

My Journey's were a PITA to open. Keep the topcase. If you don't like side loaders, sell the Journey side cases and get a used set of Gobi's.

or, a new set of Pelican 1440's if you like huge cases. I sold these because they were too big for my liking.

Those set-ups look good. What hardware/hoops are you guys using to mount your side cases? I also need to have something to mount the topcase on as well because my Uly is the beast of burden when the wife and I take trips. I really like the idea of top-loading side cases.

Gobi's attach with stock hardware already on the Uly rack and Gobi case. Keyed like the Journey's.
I put the Pelicans on the stock Uly rack with the Happy Trail mount system. Mods required are cutting away part of the back of the case/hinge reinforcement and drilling holes for the mounts. You will also need to remove the triple tail as it won't allow the Pelicans to open all the way. Padlocks required for the Pelicans (4)
No problems with the Gobi's and the T-tail.

Bbird pm sent.

The Gobi's look nice. I really don't want to remove the triple tail if I don't have to. I would be interested in finding a set of outdoorman side bags to go with the top case, but they look awfully small.

I had the hots for a set of Holans and was about to buy them when I found the Gobi's on advrider for about half the cost.

I put the gobi's on as well. No brain'er.
Bought a set off a guy that got them with his 990 adventure. Brand new with the mounts for the 990 for $350. My next bike will be a KTM 990 so I will have the luggage and hardware already.

Touratech Zegas come with their own mounting hardware - strong as hell. The rear rack is a Givi Fehling and integrates with the Touratech side mounts seamlessly - no fabrication needed. You can mount any topcase mounting plate you want on the the Fehling rack, so your choices are unlimited. Personally, I prefer no topcase and strap on a large drybag for a long haul tour.

There's always the one-off, DIY option. My solution:

Tempered steel square tubing (courtesy a trashed lawn chair) for my racks and military surplus water/weather-proof night-vision hard boxes for bags and some miscellaneous hardware and bedliner finish.

Oh yeah, came to under $150.

I think what I'm going to do is get either the Gobis or the 40L Juniors-I really like the look of both sets. My problem now is finding the racks for the side and top cases. Any one know how to get just the racks?

Here is my Caribou set up for distance, minus the dry bag strapped to the top of the top case.

Caribou on Uly

Caribou on Uly rear

I fabricated the support bracket for the triple tail. It is removable and bolts through the bottom wall of the top case.

When fully loaded, there is a great deal of weight aft of the rear wheel axle. Care must be taken when climbing off the bike if parked even slightly uphill . . .don't ask me how I know.

Hope this helps

Check these out for $275 a pair.

Then mount them to factory racks with these for $50.00

The Happy Trail mounts work great on anything with a flat back. Should work on TT's or any other aluminum panniers just fine. Make sure you get the holes drilled right. Best way is to make a template out of cardboard or thin plywood to mount first. Had no issues with the mounts on the big Pelicans I put on.

How 'bout a few close-ups of the passenger running boards? And maybe a "how to"?

I recently purchased a set of the Touratech pannier racks and will be getting a set of aluminum panniers for them.

You can mount just about any of the aluminum panniers on any rack using a generic mounting kit like Happy Trails sells.

Can anyone tell me the diameter of the stock buell racks so I can order the right happy trails mount kit for some pelican cases??

I don't have access to the bike right now to check and I'd like to get them ordered.

Here are the "Outdoorsman" 40 liter bags top and side cases. Much bigger than the 30 liter ones

After reading this advrider thread I PM'd ep1c (the maker) to see if he could / would make mounting racks for these and how much he'd want. I had seen another poster ask about mounts for a Triumph and he'd said if he could find one for measurements and testing he could do it.
Turns out his friend has an Uly and he's pretty sure he could borrow it, but he'd have to ask. I'm to email him this coming weekend to see what the cost would be.
I'll let you all know what he says.

I ordered a set of those aluminum panniers this morning, should have them mid next week and will post a review. They should be just shy of 40L.

I really wanted a set of the Caribou Bags, but they are no longer fabricating for Buell. Anyone have any other rack resources. I only seem to find Lightning in Hepco Becker.

After looking at the thread a little closer I just ordered a set from Happy Tail, can't wait for them to get here.

Tocino,
Have not gotten them yet- the fabricator had some challenges with getting latches and had a few big orders come in. They should have shipped on Friday, and I am sitting in an airport on my way to Northern Alberta, so I'll not even see them until next weekend. I will post a review at that time.

I do also have a line on another set of TT pannier racks, PM me if you're interested.

Sadly, he can't get a hold of a Ulysses so going with the Happy Trails rack and generic mounting kit is the cheapest option I've found yet (300$ for rack + kit).
