I've been playing with my new-to-me Garmin Streetpilot 2720 in the car since I'm in the normal Canadian Winter Wonderland here right now. I've been using it all week while driving around, but this morning, it was giving me problems. The touch screen wasn't responding to my finger, and nothing seemed to be working. The screen then started working intermittently, so I tried to calibrate it, but wasn't able to - just kept telling me that the calibration failed. After about 30 minutes of driving, it started working properly again, although the calibrate exercise worked sometimes, but other times not. I've been leaving it in the car overnight (in temps around -20C, or around 0F). It was warmer than that once I got in the car, but probably still about -10C (14F). Was I just dealing with a frozen screen, or is this a sign of something bad? | ||

LCD screens can become unresponsive when it is cold like that. Perfectly normal, nothing you can do short of mounting it to the header. | ||

Well there you go! I had checked the manual, but it only mentioned extreme temperatures, whatever that means. Thanks Froggy! | ||

Trevd, Other than that, what are your impressions of your 2720? I've been on the lookout for a used one on Craigslist. Unfortunately, most won't sell except in person. I'll just have to wait. | ||

Electraglider, Keeping in mind that this is my first GPS, and that I've only used 2 other ones in the past for about a total of 5 hours, and that I've only really used this one for a week or so, I may not be the best person to ask. But you did, so I'll tell ya! So far I think I'm going to really like it. It's got way more flexibility than the low end Nuvi and Magellan that I've used for a bit in the past, and it's a lot easier to use quickly than the Magellan. It seems to calculate routes quicker than the Nuvi as well. I like the trip computer feature. I'm looking forward to being able to plot a route on my computer and upload it to the GPS. I haven't done that yet because I don't have an AC adapter yet to be able to power it up indoors, but it's on order so it should be in next week sometime. I guess that would be a minus for it - no battery, so it can't be used unless plugged into something. I got mine on Ebay - there seems to be a few on there at any given time. According to someone here (don't remember who), you can buy a non-functioning one on Ebay, send it to Garmin along with $180 and they'll fix it up good as new. Not sure how to go about that though...
