Hi All,
Just bought a 08 XB12X on Ebay in Tracy, CA. I live near San Diego. I am flying up next Friday to pick it up and ride it home. I am told by the seller that it is ride ready. BIG IF, you were doing what I am planning to do, what would you take with you to ensure the ride went well (tools, spare parts, etc.)? BTW, it comes with Buell side cases (no top case).

I know some guys leave nothing to chance and are going to suggest you bring an arsenal of tools and spare parts. If the tool kit with the T27 comes with the bike, all I'd bring is something to check the tire pressure with, a good multi-tool, tire repair kit, maybe some loctite just in case something gets a little loose and that's about it. Oh, and print off the California section of BRAN on this website.

All I carry with me is the tool kit that came with the bike and a tire repair kit(compressor, plugs, pliers). I've never needed anything else.

The only thing I'd add to the above is a fully charged cell phone and a valid credit card (for true emergencies).

Take a few minutes to set up the suspension for your weight (see owner's manual, available on line at buell.com) before you leave. It makes a big difference in how the bike handles.

Bet the dealer would set his weight for him. Bring all weather gear. Sunscreen. Full helmet. The windscreen is minimal so you take the air. Change oil first 1000.

You're going to need some sort of pain reliever. By the end of ride, your face will be all crampy from the big smile you'll have on your face the entire time.

You going the scenic coastal route or I5 home? There is about 100 miles difference, coastal being the longer(445 vs 560.)
Either route, some warm clothes, credit card, shop towel, for checking the oil.

You should be able to get 150 miles on a tank of fuel, before the low fuel light comes on. Check the oil at each fill up. Do not over fill, the correct level is between the lower add oil section and the first 2 XXs'.

And bring a camera so you can post a pic or 3. Sure we all know what your bike looks like, but it's winter (at least for some) and it's nice to know some people are lucky enough to be riding. : )

Wow! Thanks for all of the help and encouragement. I hope I don't need to use BRAN, but it is a true relief to know it exists. I will add myself to the list. I will share some pix and a report (good or bad) when I return. Thanks again, Iliad

I carry a gallon jug of frozen tea and a lawn chair. It made all the difference when I was waiting on the side of the road with the rear bearings out. Seriously print the BRAN and charge the cell, then you won't need either. Get plenty of rest and hydrate heavy for a few days prior to the ride.

I have the factory toolkit, a tire plug / CO2 kit, multitool, zip ties, flashlight and matches with me always. Getting ready to add 2 of the Ag "document tubes" - one for first aid, one for spare fuel. Given the condition of my bike right now (owner induced - 11k miles, never washed, ridden hard and put away wet very often) I also carry a spare clutch cable, a bottle of Dri-Slide cable lube, and for Buelltoberfest I had a quart of Syn3.

That said...2k miles in 5 days for Buelltoberfest and I didn't need ANY of it. The only stuff the Uly used was fuel and air. And a good portion of the side sections of the tires ; )

+100 on setting the suspension for your weight - do it yourself. At least then you KNOW. Also +100 on the cell phone and credit card : )

Got home to Poway (near San Diego) last night after a 4 day meandering ride from Tracy, CA through Monterey down Hwy 1 through the Santa Monica Mtn's (the girlfriend lives there) with the Uly I bought on Ebay. I had the BRAN list in my pocket the whole way. Thanks to all who answered my question and provided encouragement.

I have a couple of silly pix, but I am trying to figure out how to reduce their size so that I can post them.

You will need a pic hosting account and link them here or just do what I do.

No pics.

Here's how I do pics with XP
Make sure your camera puts the pics on my pictures
go to my pictures and select the group you want
double click the pic you want and click on edit pictures
select web small
click on file and save then save as

you can get bigger pics by selecting web large then save then save as
then do it again
select web large then save then save as

for some reason if I save twice on web large it is less pixels and it will load on Bad web

When you right click "edit" with the mouse on the pic, you can also go to attributes and reduce the number of pixels to like 620X460. Then hit save or save as and go back and upload it.

When I double click or edit a picture, it opens in Paint. What program do you open your pictures in to reduce the dimensions?

I use the My Pictures that comes with Windows XP not the program that comes with the camera.
