I have (and don't intend to sell) my 05 XB9SX. But the real right bike for me is an XB12XT... adverture tourer chassis with sportbike suspension. But the budget isn't going to support keeping the 9sx and buying a "new" bike like the XT. So, is changing an original XB12X into an XT just a front end swap? If so, I'll lurk for a salvage title or high mileage cheap Uly over the next year, and do a slow motion conversion and rebuild. |

An XT is 2" shorter, tall windscreen, different front fender, and bags. Easy transformation if you leave the X suspension. If not, swap front end and rear shock, and you're done. |

It is easy and I did the change on my 2007 X, exchanging the X front forks and rear shock for XT items. The whole project was less than $1K thanks to help from a badweb sponsering dealer and the finished result made the bike much more manageable for my short self. Don't forget the sidestand has to be shortened. The XT sidestand didn't work as it's a 3 bolt attachment whereas my bike is drilled for a 2-bolt. |

What do you want to swap? The suspension is the only thing that would take more than 5 minutes to switch between the two. There was a 06 Uly with something like 60k miles for sale in the classifieds here for next to nothing. You could always give Ft_bsrd a call and pick up a red XT with the nice discount |

Reepi- I priced out the parts for my Uly about a year ago, front fork legs, rear shock, shorter kickstand, and front fender. Total for new parts was about $1100 IIRC. |

Perfect, that's what I was looking for. The suspension is what I really care about. I'll start lurking. That 60k uly sounds neat. I'll look... It would be fun to clean it up and put another 60k on it... |

Reep, IMHO, I'd go with TT suspension over XT. |

Steve, wasn't that the bike you built your Ulybolt out of? A STT? |

Yup. The XT is taller, and has less suspension travel than my Ulybolt. |

Both sound like good choices... thanks. Now to find that $3000 "Ulysses in a bucket".... |

If you're changing to XT forks, you need XT trees. 47mm X versus 43mm XT. To get XT seat height: Trees Forks Shock ass'y To do cosmetics: Front fender (XB style instead of the X's beak setup) Tall windscreen ...and if you care, the XT wheels are about a pound lighter each because they're not reinforced like the X wheels. And they're black. |

Ratbuell- That's not correct about having to change the trees. Both the 43 and 47 mm forks have the same OD where they pass through the clamps. Several Badwebbers have installed 08-up offset clamps on 06/07 Ulys and retained the original fork tubes. |

Rat, the XT uses the 06-07 Trees. I don't have a parts book to confirm, but it should end in .1ak |
