I’ll start with the power issue. This happens only at low speed. I am about to make a turn at an intersection, let off the throttle completely, start my turn and ease into the throttle. There is a momentary lag, then a pretty good jolt of power. It reminds me of blipping the throttle on purpose, but I’m not. The wife got a little unsettled on the back, and that’s not good. Is this normal?

My second issue is fuel economy. I got this bike on the 2nd of January. Its an 06 with 4600 miles. The weather has only allowed me to put one tank of gas through it so far. I got 31.3 MPG. Half of these miles were freeway miles. I had to change the plugs the second day I had it, as they were so fouled it wouldn’t run, and it smells as if its running pretty rich. Is this normal? I don’t think so, as I see most of you on Uly's get 42-50 mpg. I need some help boys. I’ve got to find a fix for the gas mileage cheaply. The wife just got layed off so money is going to be tight for this fix. I busted the savings getting the bike before she got layed off.

Start by resetting the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), when engine is at operating temperature; that should make a big difference.

And, if a comfort kit is not installed; get one on order. Come summer your guys and thighs will thank you...

+1 on the TPS reset. last time I had mine done it cost me $20 at a dealer. Make sure they do it on a warm engine. The first time they did it was on a cold engine and the result was poor idle and momentary lag at low rpms. Simple fix.

I warm mine up pretty good in cold weather. If I do, say, four cold starts on one tank of gas letting it warm up for five minutes each time, my mileage will drop considerably.

A lot of riders getting the better mileage numbers use more than one or two tanks of gas per riding day, thus no cold starts.

Thanks for the info. I just got off the phone with Granite Mountain HD in Conyers GA. They wanted at a minimum 1/2 hour shop rate = $40. I can get the ECM Spy cable for that price. Oh what to do? Anyone in the Atlanta area with the cable and willing to reset the TPS? I'll come to you with the bike?

I took mine for a 60 mile ride yesterday to get a new photo drivers license.
I looked at the outside temps, 33 deg F.
I figure "what the hell, I got the gear, and it's my 50th birthday, I am taking the Uly!"

My bike has the comfort kit. The fan never came on the whole ride, nor did it run at either stop. I cruised at 3000 RPM, I even ran it harder coming home to try to heat it up. The whole time it idled like it still was in cold enrichment mode. That has to kill MPG. But last time I bought fuel I guess I forgot to reset the trip odometer so I will never know. It says 210 miles and the fuel light is not on yet.

I live in So. California, and block of 2/3 of my oil cooler when the temps go below 55-60 F.

Oil runs at 183 F on the road and 213 F in town when blocked off.

Have it checked to make sure it has the latest map.
