I was attempting to put on the inner shroud of the comfort kit and it didn't seem to fit very well. I kept checking but alas buggered up the ferrels that they screw into. How do I get these out and how do I put new ones in. Any help appreciated.

Barocky - Well if ya didnt bugger 'em up too bad ya might want to try a 'thread follower' (a bit less severe than a tap - doesnt remove as much material - just straightens out the threads) I did the comfort kit also, fortunatly without permanently damaging the Uly. I don't know if the ferrels screw or press in. so not much help there. Froggy ?? Dr Greg...

There are all kinds of nutserts available at nut and bolt stores. Not one of my favorites, but Lowes has a good variety, as well as most autobody supply stores, NAPA stores etc.

If you are going to run a thread chaser or tap through it, do it from the back side. It will start and run from where the threads are not messed up giving a better chance of a functional repair.

Did the same thing! those threaded inserts cross-thread way too easy and then when backing out attempts are made they break loose and spin, GRRRR! I eventually got it out and carefully chased a tap through until the bolt went in smoothly.
Oh the fun of doing your own wrenching!

Yes Ronmold they do come loose way to easy. I was wondering if anyone knew what these little doobisaries are called how they are put on and taken off.

Are you referring to the threaded inserts in the inner shroud, or the inserts that the inner shroud mounts to? The ones in the inner shroud for attaching the outer scoop are cast into the plastic when the inner shroud is made, and I don't know of any replacements that will go in and stay. Regular nutserts expand slightly in the installation process, and probably would crack the plastic shroud.

I was talking about the ones that the inner shroud mounts to. I talked to my local dealer and he said that these are pressed in and it is easier just to get the whole bar replaced under warranty. I hope this works well I might just have dealer install kit when part comes also.

The tip of the day is for anyone who has'nt messed up the threads yet or installed the comfort kit yet is to screw in the lower screw part way before doing the other ones. After having them all started, go back and tighten them to 24 in. lbs.
