Have a 09 XT,the dash outlet quit working so no heated gear right now. Checked the fuses no problem but one of the breakers I believe is bad anyway was 14 deg on the first, was a bit chilly went riding anyway. Just wondering if anyone has had this problem before? Will be taking the bike to the dealer since its under warr. as soon as the Snow Quits!

There is another outlet under the seat.

On the 09's, the outlets are controlled by the ECM, and if the battery voltage drops too low (say at idle), it will shut off the outlets. I recommend wiring heated gear directly to the battery anyway due to the high draws. The outlets are on a 10 amp fuse if I recall right, the Gerbings jacket alone consumes 7 amps. Not much headroom, even less if you got the heated gloves or even the OEM heated grips on (which are also on that accessory line).

Keep in mind the outlets are only powered when the key is on ON and the kill switch is on RUN.

I spent half an hour diagnosing my non-working outlets, before I learned the kill switch requirement.

I agree Froggy. I replaced the elec. connection pigtail that comes on the XT with a 15 amp one from Gerbing that takes care of both the heated gear when riding and the battery tender when parked. Battery tender pigtails may be as low as 3 amps, I forget, but they won't handle heated gear. I'm not sure what the rating is on the XT's stock pigtail but I wanted to be sure so I switched it out.

You may have lost the ground connection at the steering head for the outlet. There are four wires connected to the ground lug there and one is for that outlet. DAMHIK

If you're going to run your heated gear right off the battery, invest in one of the many charging system gauges first. My Uly has behaved quite well with the heated grips and with my heated gear run off the battery...but I have a gauge and I know (now) that I should turn the grips off if I'm in a lot of stop and go. And not to run my aux lights with the heated gear at idle.

The ECM controlled outlets are a nice watchdog feature...and I'd rather catch a chill than push a bike anyday. Just CYA if you're going to bypass the system, and put the voltmeter on first : )

+1 on the hard wire option. The ergos are much better with the cable routed up from down below to the heat 'troller on the jacket/vest/liner.
