While perusing a "you and the cops" photo thread on advrider, it got me to wondering- did Buell sell any of the police models to law enforcement agencies? According to the poster, 137 were built.

I thought Miami/Dade used a bunch of them during development, as "hurricane response" vehicles. Not sure if they ever owned any, or if they just helped with the development...

I got pulled over by one in a small town just outside of Scranton, PA. Later found out the guy was also the law enforcement contact for the event I was working there so it worked out quite well (and I got to go over his bike with him with a fine tooth comb which was waaay cool).

According to what I can remember, his was not a "P" model as the "P" model had not yet been designated for production at that point. His department liked the Buell and he and the local dealer, with the help of their radio/communications rep and a few other vendors, built a black "P" model from scratch.

I think this is the place:

There are two of them in the Gastonia NC police dept. I was on a toy run with some friends when we came upon an officer on uly. We spoke at length at Rays Smoke House on Broad st. Nice guy, nice bike. He said he routinely runs down kids on crotch rockets. That was after I sold my uly but I recently bought an XT. I'm happy to have another buell in the stable.
