I'm looking at getting the comfort kit, but also the Spec ops heat barriers. Anybody have/used both and have an opinion? I have a 09XT, and would like to know what comfort kit would be the best to get, seems like there are different ones. I have a right side air scoop that came with some high-way bars I bought from a member here on BWB. Other than heat barrier, what does the comfort kit provide in terms of impact on the bike in terms of performance/reliability. I have the most recent ecm flash, which I'm told is the same, comfort kit or no comfort kit. Finally does anyone think the spec ops barriers would be bad/hard on the ecm and electrical system? my 07 came without the comfort kit, but did have the spec. ops barriers. The RS scoop that comes with the comfort kit a difference in the heat, but the shock shroud really made it work great! I can't recall 100%, but I think there is an area above the comfort kit, below the air box cover where I can see the rear head. After asking here I figured why not and I left just the front 1/2 if the barrier on. Not sure I would buy the barrier if I had the comfort kit. | ||

Gabe, The comfort kit heat shroud [part that goes under the seat] does the same thing as the sp ops heat shields, only it probably seals out the heat even better. Get one or the other, like Court says both are a waste of money. IMO the comfort kit is by far the best way to go. It really transforms the bike. I'd say it has cut down on my fan run time by >90%. (06 12X). | ||

I still felt that the rear head caused a bit of discomfort so I fashioned an aluminum tape heat baffle back in place. No heat at all now on leg. | ||

The comfort kit will not do anything for the gap at the frame/seat/airbox cover junction. Closing this gap does wonders for the cooked right inner leg syndrome. | ||

Electraglider, Could you show/describe your baffle? Did you just put it over the gap Dio talks about? Court which kit is best for the 09XT? Some kits come with more parts. It's winter, so I like the heat, but will need to have the kit come spring. I had an X1, and have read it's similar. Thanks for the help! Gabe | ||

I didn't put the fan shroud on when I installed the comfort kit, and probably won't. I got a piece of the same material as the heat blankets from a friend who used it on his street rod. I covered the gap on the right side, and cut it to fit similarly to the upper piece of the 2 piece blanket ending under the ecm. this directs the heat out the fan discharge area out the back instead of under the seat. If you already have the RSS, I wouldn't spend another $120 for another scoop. You can order the fan shroud separately if you feel the need to have one, but a scoop and a blanket do the job just as well IMO. | ||

I already had the SpecOps Treadmarks heat blankets so I left the front portion installed. I took off the rear portion so the ECM would run cooler. I installed the complete comfort kit so I probably don't need it, but I see no harm in leaving it there. | ||

Court, Did you install that monster? If so, congratulations. Thankfully, especially after watching the tech 'through the glass' take 2 full hours, I had it worked into my purchase. Mine looks like yours but all I can do is hope he got it right and everything put back correctly. Very nice, and helpful, pictorial. Thanks. Rwven, This is a 'bit' off topic (lol) but I noticed you had a bad rear bearing at 11,000 miles. Do you think it was an installation problem from your rear tire replacement? | ||
