With only 1400 miles on my two month old 2008XT I think I may have fork seal problems. I've noticed a thin oil sheen on the sliding portions of both forks recently. Today I had about an inch wide thin sheen on both. Normal or a problem? I've not had that on my Harleys.

I also had a front signal go out today though the other front and both rears work. Bulb out? This bike may have aged from inactivity in the crate! Ths.

Possibly just a bad seal on the fork, is there any rough parts on the sliders that could of damaged it.

Its easy enough to get to the indicator bulb to have a check. Just need a philips srewdriver then pull the cover off. You'll be able to see if the filament is broken, if your not sure try swapping the bulbs over.

If the working bulb is blinking faster it's more then likely a bad bulb.

Fork seals happen. Just have it covered as a warranty repair.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the input. The 'right' rear is working and it is blinking faster. I'll check the 'right' front bulb. I realize bulbs go out but on my Harley's I've never had it happen so this surprised me after only 2 months. The same with sheens on the fork sliders in only 2 months. It is of course under warranty but now I worry about a tech screwing up my bearings, etc., when re-installing the wheel. Thankfully I know the owner well and I will express my concerns. Ths. again. Mike

If it goes beyond a bulb or simple wire plug problem there is another place to look. I don't know if they changed the wiring harness on the '08's from the '06's, but if not, there are two triple splicers in the harness where it goes through the steering head harness clamp area. These are prone to break and cause intermittent problems. The brown wire splicer is for the right turn-signal system. The red splicer is for power to the instrument cluster and peripheral stuff in the fly screen.
