I've found instructions for installing the comfort kit on the list here but is there some link I'm missing that outlines what changes need to be made to the ECM after the installation of the kit? I have all of the necessary hardware and software to access the ECM, just not sure what needs to be changed following the install of the kit. | ||

See Page 1 of 5. "See Dealer for ECM Changes". The dealer, and only a dealer, can load the changes. They apply to some Ulysses and not to others. The download comes from HD-net so it takes not only the hardware and software but access to HD-net.   | ||

Nothing. The update is optional, and adjusts the fan operation to factor in speed along with engine temp. The update only applies to 2008 and 2009 models. | ||

To clarify - the updated ECM flash changes what the fan references in order to turn on/off the fan. Old flash: references cylinder head temp only New flash: references head temp AND vehicle speed, to keep fan from running (and being "annoying" to some folks) when vehicle is traveling under 5mph. Reports state the fan runs much more when vehicle is in motion, but I don't know - my bike is an '06 with a race ecm, so no flash available for me. I do, however, have the comfort kit installed on my bike and love it. | ||

Since installing the comfort kit, the fan operation on my Uly('06) has become much less fickle. No more fan spoiling my Zen whilst cruising P.C.H. Sunday morning... | ||

I have an 06'. Don't know why anyone would want to have that 08' comfort kit reflash done to their 08/09. I can see how it would make warming up your bike very hard to do in cool or cold weather. I like to have my fan come on at shutdown so that I know my oil got plenty hot to cook off condensate. My opinion is that folks with an 08/09 ULY should think real hard about having that goofy update done to their bikes. | ||

I have a comfort kit but !NO! reflash on my 08'. It cools it down sufficiently that the fan does not run at all under 70*F... even at shut down. Over 70* it runs at shut down, but for a very short time. No fan at all while in motion, unless it's over 90* and I'm going slower than 60mph. I rode with a Uly with a reflash - the fan was on most the time, except at shut down - not for me! | ||

I agree. I reflashed for convenience before putting the kit on and the dang fan is on all the time at speed...and I hear it. Don't want to hear it...only the thumper, thank you very much. Then...when it could seemingly use some fan (at shutdown) there is silence. Maybe ok for self-conscience Buell owner but could care less myself. I want my original 2009 ECM coding back. Wonder if I ever could? | ||

I bought my 09 with 7500 miles on it. The PO told me it had the latest flash, and it has the comfort kit. According to him, the fan will run at low speed while going down the road so that the fan blades don't restrict air flow. Mine came on after about ten minutes of riding the other day in 40 degree weather. I heard it when I was coming to a stop at an intersection. Once the bike stopped so did the fan. I usually can't hear it while underway. It will come on full speed for a minute or two after I shut off the bike if it is warm out or I have ridden the bike like it is ment to be ridden and it's nice and hot. So I'm assuming the Buell engineers found that the fan blades were blocking the airflow to the rear cylinder if they wern't moving and programmed the ecm to have it turn on at a prescribed RPM/head temp.? The fan doesn't bother me. I've had BMW K bikes and Kawasaki KLRs and they all had fans; being water cooled bikes. My KLR fan is easily as loud as the Buell at shutdown. It's kind of comforting to know it's working. | ||

Can I get a copy of the link to the Comfort Kit Installation Instructions? I am assuming that the ones posted here provide more than the factory instructions. |
