I just had my 09XP reflashed with 08 UlyX software and am noticing some differences in the fan.

When I bought the 09 it seemed as though the fan would kick on after the operating temperature had reached a certain point. Then it would switch off when it had cooled, even if the bike was off it would still run.

Come to find out my 09XP has an RPM limiter on both 4th and 5th gear that severely limits the HP potential. My top speed was only 110. Needless to say I wanted this removed. The dealer opted to put an 08 update that removed these restrictions.

Now that the 08 update is on the fan seems to automatically come on at speeds above 15mph, and then turns off as a slow down below 15mph. This has to be related to the update because the fan does not run when the bike is off now. I'm a bit concerned that in a traffic situation that fan is not going to run and that the rear cylinder is going to cook.

You got the 2010 XP software designed for use with the comfort kit. The dealer cannot put software from another bike on yours, as it is VIN and odometer mileage encoded. What they probably did was connected the Digital Technician, and downloaded the most current programming for you bike, which alters the fan operation. I recommend you get a comfort kit installed to take advantage of the programming.

How would this remove the RPM limiters in 4th and 5th gears then?

I have a comfort kit I plan on installing in the summer. The fan update (not running at idle) is for this?

I talked with my dealer. It's an 08 update. I'm going to get a new update when the comfort kit gets installed.

Thanks.

You cant go back a year with the updates. Its the 2010 update that you've got. Thats the only year where the fan runs like that.

Hope you dont mind the fan noise : D

Then I guess the printout and the dealer is lying to me.

Lovely.

Yes it is lying to you. You have the 2010 update.

If you have the printout, post the flash number / calibration ID. Printout should list the old ID (what it had when they hooked it up), and the current one (what they put in). We can figure it out, but Froggy and DavidXT are correct - you cannot "back-flash" a bike.

I'd be interested in seeing if they put an X or XT flash in, as opposed to XP.

He did say they put an X flash in there.

Thanks everyone. I'll post up those numbers.

I just had the same flash done to my 08
it seems to me that the fan may have a shorter life than before since it runs all the time now. Before it seemed to run more based on temp were now it has more to with speed.Does this make sense to any of you?

Previous posts on this forum have indicated that the XP has a lower top end than other Ulys. On the face of it, it doesn't seem logical to do this to a bike that may see action as a pursuit vehicle.

As a new 2009 XP owner, I'm curious as to the source of this information, specifics on how the XP rev limiter configuration is different than other Ulys, and whether correcting the situation is as simple as reflashing the bike (I'm planning to install the rider comfort kit anyway).

Thanks!

Blk uly - yes that makes sense.

Sboggon - Im not sure as ive never seen an XP, is it not a 1203 engine in there also? I thought it was just an X that came with luggage?

Davidxt: the XP is identical to an X (same engine, frame, suspension, ECM, etc) with the addition of a mounting point for pursuit lights and a siren, an additional wiring harness/module for the lights and siren, Outdoorsman bags, and airbox graphics. The lights and siren are removed when sold to civilians. The XP was available in Villain Black and Birch White. See http://www.buell.com/en_us/bikes/police/XB12XP/ for more info.

There was a thread discussing whether XPs were electronically governed awhile back (http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/499273.html). I'm trying to sort out the difference, if any, between the XP and the X and figure out what to do about it.

Sboggan - I had my XP run on the dyno and compared to a standard X and it is definitely limited in 4th and 5th gear.

A reflash by the dealer is what I had to do to remove this.

Sperz1, thanks for the info. If you can post the dyno numbers, that would be great.

I'll have to expedite my re-flash and RSS install (I've been planning to hold off until spring, as the extra engine heat is darn comfortable this time of year).

All XB's are "rev" limited to protect the engine.

All XP's are "speed" limited due to police cargo.
