Guys, I just got a new voltage regulator for my 06 Uly, to find it is the upgraded version with the new plugs. it comes with a set of sockets to fit onto the existing harness and replace the existing, but no indication of the polarity in the fitting instructions - any one done this upgrade?

I just guessing, but I think the voltage coming from the stator to the regulator is AC so polarity should not matter.
I could be wrong, someone else please

Step away from the wire cutters .
I am pretty sure the new connector is on the DC output side to replace the old '77 connector so polarity is important. If you look in this picture of the new regulator + plug kit is is a two-wire connector.

BEFORE you cut the existing plugs off (and make sure the battery is disconnected as the loom '77 is connected to the battery via a fuse), mark the positive wire from the regulator that lines up with the RED wire on the main loom side and go from there.

If you have got the regulator disconnected and are looking at two black wires wondering where they go then get a multimeter and measure each wire to the case of the regulator. The ground wire is connected directly to the case internally so is the one that measures zero ohms.

As mentioned above, the 3-wire connector is the AC input from the stator and can be wired in any order,

Feel free to PM me if I can be of assistance.

Phil, I just noticed that you are local to me - let me know if I can assist, I am in Werribee.

thanks Ray, you're on the money, should have thought of checking for ground myself.
Sounds like you have changed one too?...I started out blowing a lot of headlight globes over a few months, then when I finally got around to putting a meter in the accessory socket to see what it was doing voltage-wise I discovered it was charging up to 17v sometimes, and then the next outing not charging above 12v - totally erratic. The battery is also dead now too - I hope it is JUST the regulator...
