Does anyone know where I can get a pair of the mounting blocks for the handguards on an XP? I am planning on running some Whelen LIN-3's as turn signals and would like to mount them neatly. Thanks.

Any dealer can order them. Also check the Whelan website, they have some mounting options. The pieces are in the Uly parts manual I think. I ordered the "cop" switches and got them in less than a week.

You are looking for

M1188.1AU - DEFLECTOR, Left
M1187.1AU - DEFLECTOR, Right

(Note: the angle mount comes WITH the handguard)

For anyone thinking about using the lights for turn signals, you are looking for Whelen LIN3 or TIR3 lights. They are available in amber from multiple online sources. The LIN3s would be the preferred lights as they have a wider beam pattern than the TIR3 model. I won't put the web site here, but I have found them as cheap as $50.50 each. They were designed as emergency lights with built in flash patterns but include a steady burn allowing you to hook them up to any flasher. If anyone wants further information, let me know, I use these a lot.

So are there extra switches on the control block for those extra lights? Or are you just going to wire them up to the turn signal controller?

I was wondering if people are using some extra switching for their driving lights that they add on? I was thinking that I'd really like to get both of my stock headlamps to light on lowbeam and then the two stock headlamps plus the driving lights to light up on highbeam. Anyone doing that?

I wouldn't hook up both high and low beam to be used as low beam. The high beam will get you a lot of flashing high beams in return unless you aim the lights very low.

I had a blown fuse on my light set-up taking out my low beam (HID)and foglight (PIAA 510 amber). Since I was just a few miles from home, I decided to press on, and take a look at things in the comfort and safety of my garage.
EVERYONE was flashing their high beams in retaliation.

The left head lamp housing side is aimed higher for the "hi" beam, they are molded one piece housings. It is best to hook them both up to be on in "hi" mode. Then when traffic approaches you can switch to the single "low" beam so that you don't catch a beer bottle in the neck from some drunken "master of the highway"!

Just called Bumpus HD today to price the part. The entire assembly comes as one unit at approx $75 each side. A bit too pricey for what the part actually is. Does anyone know of a bark buster type handguard with a relatively flat front? If I am going to spend the $$$ I might as well go with a little more protection.
BTW, I was thinking of running the Lin 3's in the steady setting, slaved to the existing turn signals. Or I might just replace the existing signals all together. Thoughts?

That $75 is for what?

If that includes the light, it's a steal. I have some extra hand guards about. I'm using the TIR3 as a brake light and, particularly in NYC, like the idea of having amber TIR3's on the front to draw the attention of the idiot across the intersection.

Did that include the cable and harness?

I made a set of stand-offs for a set of TIR3's once to angle them away from the mounting surface using 1" square tubing from Home Depot. I don't think they would look quite as good as the molded plastic, but they work well. Just made a cardboard template to get the angles right, cut, grind, drill, and paint.

As far as getting rid of the normal turn signal and using just the LIN3, I wouldn't without adding something for side visibility. Not that motorcycle turn signals are that great to start with when viewed from the side, but the LINs won't cut it by themselves. They may be almost blinding at night to the front, but almost invisible to the side as well.

Court - the $75 is just the handguard, and the Buell bezel to mount the TIR3 into. Items 23 and 24, no lights or wires.

These lights work real well and only cost about 4 bucks each , though I saw something real close at Harbor Freight for about 5 bucks for the pair. As for casting a beam, why? These light up for seeing "them" not for seeing "with them" like a headlight.

You could try a set of these. They are mostly for offroad bikes like KTM`s but could be made to look good on a Buell

i have had the TIR3 brake light on several bikes...

i was going to install a couple on the front in steady burn mode..
a LED guru told me that TIR3s are not rated for long term steady burn... anyone know otherwise?

I don't think any of the super-hi-output LEDs are "rated" for steadyburn just yet. It's a heat thing. I've done some work with Federal Signal TriCuda's, and they recommend against steady-burn. Even though it's in the "flash pattern" bank in every light. <shrug>

So, this is great for the emergency equipment on the front of the bike, but what was the emergency equipment on the rear? I tried looking for the bike at Buell.com, but they don't seem to be listed anymore.

The rear and rear-side lights only attach to the topcase. Nothing on the saddlebags. There were 2 brackets, one L and one R, and they attached to the bottom of the topcase. Each one held sidelights and half of the rear lights.

Scans of that would be helpful, or a photo. I recall being able to look that bike up on the Buell site a while back, but now it's gone. I'm not going to cop the thing out, but I'm exploring options to see what sticks.

I just ordered two sets of these lights http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/44-LED-Car-Truck-St robe-Emergency-Lights-Bright-AMBER_W0QQitemZ390133 262976QQihZ026QQcategoryZ33709QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trk sidZp4340.m444QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DCRX%26its%3DC%252 BS%26itu%3DSI%252BUA%252BLM%252BLA%26otn%3D5%26ps% 3D63 One set for each side front and rear. When the arrive I'll see how they work. They should be timed right with an electronic flasher relay and should strobe as they flash.
