Hello all...I am a long-time lurker who is about to pull the trigger on an 09 Uly. I wanted to check with you guys about real world pricing as I am military stationed in England and will be purchasing through AAFES. The local sales guy just had one X and one XT show up in the available inventory. The pricing is as follows and reflects a $2700 discount:
XB12X (w/5yr warranty) - $9978
w/out warranty - $8678
XB12XT (w/warranty) - $11388
w/out warranty - $10388
Do these prices look good considering Buells current status and compared to what the stateside dealers have offered? Also, considering the current situation is the 5 yr extended warranty worth the $1300? I appreciate the help guys and I look forward to joining the family.

Aaron

One more thing...this included delivery fees and inland freight charges of about $600. The bike would be delivered to Thunderbird HD in Albequerque NM for me to pick up when I PCS in a couple of months.

My suggestion would be to not worry so much about what other are paying or have paid for their bikes and make your decision based on what it is worth to you.

I've seen people buy bikes that they were ecstatic over until they found out that someone got a better deal than they did. After that they hated their bike b/c they felt like they overpaid for it (not b/c of anything wrong with the bike).

That said, the prices look fair to me.

I'd say those prices are a bit on the high side considering you're going to have to pay taxes on them when you get stateside. Maybe knock 1k-1.5k off.

You pay taxes on stuff bought through AAFES????? when did that start? I admit I never bought a vehicle through them but I thought AAFES was all tax free.

Thanks for the responses...I have yet to get a clear answer on taxes when returning to the States. We just bought a new Volvo XC90 and are taking delivery here in the UK. We will ship it in a couple of months. Alot of people talk about having to pay taxes when returning, but I am not sure if they mean sales tax or property tax. Sales tax should not be an issue as that is one of the benefits of AAFES...property taxes are state specific, but most do not require payment by military who are not residents of that state. i am a SC resident so I hope we won't have that to worry about.

I am trying to decide which I want now...X or XT. I think I will go with the X and add farkles later. I am 6-1 with a 43" inseam, so I think it will be fine.

Any comments on the 5yr warranty?

If you are at all interested, I don't think you should wait. These bikes are getting harder to find and if you don't buy it, someone else will. If that happens, you will regret hesitating for the rest of your life! Maybe?

I am 6-1 with a 43" inseam,

Lol, did your mom mess around with a giraffe??? I've GOT to see a pic.

As for the warranty, ask yourself how comfortable are you doing your wrenching yourself, and do you trust others folks you dont know to work on your bike? Personally, I think it would be a waste of money but others think the peace of mind is worth whatever the cost.

fwiw, go with the X and get the bags you want (unless you have your heart set on the Journey bags then go with the XT)

Edit; just teasing about the inseam, please dont take it as my being mean

For taxes...here in MD, when we deliver AAFES bikes, the only thing the buyer gives us is tax and tag money. Maryland charges sales tax on ANY vehicle when it's titled, period. We don't handle any AAFES paperwork at our end, so I'm not sure what sorts of fees they include. I also don't know if MD does a tax credit or anything like that for our servicemen/women.

+1 on don't worry about what everyone else is paying. The bikes truly are going away, though, and like mentioned above, if you hesitate too long.... In my book, the bikes are (have always been) worth their regular prices. Did I add a CR to the garage when it all hit the fan? Yep, I couldn't turn down the pricing even though a fifth Buell in the garage was about the *last* thing Kim and I needed. I like a good deal like everyone else and the situation stepped up my "I'd love one someday" timeframe...but make it a good deal for YOU; forget the Other Guy.

And trust me. Dollars and cents go away as soon as you twist that right wrist and hit some curves.

Lol, Rutlanda...I have just about the exact opposite problem, just a hair under 6'0" and a 32" inseam if I have boots on, and get away w/ 30" pants if I wear them just a little low.

09 Uly has heated grips like XT

I sold XTs and Xs for more than your price since 15Oct so I suggest that is a good set of numbers.

Buy while you can. I have been out of Ulys for 6 weeks.

It does say data is updated regularly, I will pop in my local dealer to see if the scarcity is the same listed as on the website.

Just FYI, get ready for the tax burden. Check where you're a legal resident and where you'll be stationed and go with the cheaper one. Everybody charges you taxes when you register your vehicles that you bought through AAFES or overseas. Been there, got the T Shirt with cars and bikes.

I bought an XT from Santa Fe HD three weeks ago for $10,599. I don't have an extended warranty, but they do sell a service plan that is pretty sweet. It covers 100% of all scheduled services for three years unlimited miles, including oil changes every 3,500 miles. I don't remember the price on the service plan, but it's about $2k. I bought one for my Firebolt for $1,500 and it already paid for itself on my 25K service.

I know you're PCSing to Albuquerque, but I really recommend against Thunderbird. I've never had a good experience there. Santa Fe is significantly better and only a one hour ride away (or 40 minutes from Rio Rancho!). The Service Manager at Santa Fe owns a half dozen Buells himself, including three Uly's (one each for him, his wife, and his son), an S3T, STT, and a 12S race bike. They have the best Buell tech within 500 miles.

Look forward to seeing you in the area!

My dealer, Danbury in CT has a similar service plan, its fantastic, they come and pickup the bike, and do synthetic oil changes. I got my moneys worth out of it in only 6 months. At one point they were picking my bike up at the beginning of each month like clockwork : )

The site is apparently listing our Race Bikes. All we have for sale is one 2008 1125R we transferred in from Missouri with 5 other already delivered Buells. Also, we never saw a 2010 black XB12X.

As with our intranet H-D link, it also shows bikes we have received but H-D has not yet seen the SWR yet. So bikes we have deposits on, or even have delivered, often show up for a month after they have been sold. When we use the vehicle locator, we then have to follow up with a call to those dealers to see if the bikes are available.

All I can say is that when trying to locate a bike that we don't have for a customer, be it a Buell or a Harley, the Vehicle locator function of H-Dnet.com is a start but not to be counted on until a call is made to the dealership.

It is not intentionally misleading. It is only as good as the data fed to it.

Dealers can even 'hide' bikes they want to keep to sell and not be pestered about from other dealers. It depends upon how they floor them and finance them.

Bikes that are committed to a dealer that have not been shipped do not show up on the locator until shipment and they have been floored by the dealer.

Bikes that are sold or have deposits on (for all intents and purposes these are sold too) show up but should not be considered available.

These things effect the accuracy from day to day of the system. You can't think of it as Amazon.com. This is a brick & mortar capital intensive manufacturing company with a diverse dealership network who each have some spread on how they handle their operations.

Talk with your Buell salesman and they can help you. The tools and data are there and we use them effectively when given the opportunity.
