I am trying to post a few pictures but after I click on "upload" I receive the following error message:
Error
Your uploaded image exceeded the maximum dimensions of 1024 x 1600 pixels. Please shrink your image to be smaller than these dimensions.
I tried the help section but it may just as well be in another language as I am terrible with this computer stuff. Can anyone give me very simple, basic instructions on how to shrink the image I am trying to send? I am trying to upload pics that are currently stored in my hard drive. The pic I am trying to send is 3072 X 2304. If I can make this work, I would like to upload some pics that I promised in my last post about motorcycle lifts. Thank you very much!

if you want to upload them you will need to make them smaller...

otherwise...try hosting the high res picture on something like photobucket.com etc...

hope this helps.

Lars, thank you for your help! Between you and my very smart 17 year old daughter, we were able to get a picture posted. I just might have a lot of fun with this if I ever get good at it. Thanks again, you guys (and gals) are great!

If you're working in Windoze on a PC...open whatever image you want to post with "Paint". You can either go direct, it's in the start menu under All Programs / Accessories, or you can right-click the image and choose "edit".

Once the image is open in Paint, there is an Image menu. One of the choices is Stretch/Skew. Click that, you can enter a size %, i.e. 50%. That will give you a half size image. You enter it for height, and for width.

Hint: if you don't know how much smaller you need to get it, before you do all this, right click the image and select Properties. That'll tell you size in pixels, and data. I think the data max is 106kb, for reference...but the error message will tell you if you post it too big.

Once you resize, go to File, Save As. Decide where to put it on your computer and name it (I usually leave it in the same place and just add a "bwb" to the end of the filename.

Ratbuell, I think I am starting to get the hang of this pic posting thing. It seems that there are many ways to do this, I just need to get used to it. Thank you very much. I love your simple, clear explanation. That's what I need!

Anyone know how to make clickable images (like from Flickr) work?

Example, this works fine for just the image alone:
\imagelink{http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2757/4166481203_ccdecbdf86_m.jpg}

...but what is the syntax to make hot-linked code like this work:
text/plainflickr html code.txt
flickr html code.txt (0.2 k)

There is a plug in for resizing pictures for Microsoft OS as part of a suite of tools called Powertoys. You can just download the picture resizer and install. You can do one or many pictures at a time and it's quick with just a right click of the mouse. It also makes a copy of the original and automatically renames it with the size choice appended to the name so it is not overwriting the original. Give it a try.
