hi guys, i think my set of Conti-Road Attacks is coming to the end of its life. They are not a bad tyres, but square of too easily and I had the same when I had them on my other bikes... I will soon be needing a new set and I am considering the following options: OE - Pirelli Scorp Syncs. Michelin - Pilot Road 2 - i have them on my R1100S and they are great or the Maxxis Supertouring:  has anyone tried the Maxxis on their Uly??? they are about 1/3 cheaper than the other and so far from what I could read they seem ok too... Please let me know you experiences... thx Lars | ||

Not sure about those Lars but heard good things of the michelins too. Gonna be putting them on mine next. Mines the XT though so its gonna be all road use, i see you use yours on dirt too. | ||

I do only road riding and the Dunlop sport maxx qualifier 2, is doing a great work, no squaring so far, and they seem to give a good millage. but well it's all up to riding style | ||

I used Michelin Pilot Road 2 tyres on my Uly and I only have good things to tell you. They have good wet and dry grip, good wear rate, (over 7,000 on the rear), and a nice neutral feel to them. Highly recommended!!!! | ||

i would consider the pirelli angels also, i have 5k on mine now and theres plenty of treadlife left and their great wet and dry | ||

I also have Michelin's Pilot Road 2s. Around 4k miles and not much wear evident. Big improvement over the Dunlops | ||

I just had Dunlop Roadsmart install, but no report on performance yet. I am sure others may have used them. | ||

I also have Michelin's Pilot Road 2s So do I and have had them for about 300-400 miles. IDK maybe its the stuff they put on them to release from the mold but they sure do seem to slip and slide a bunch everytime I downshift. | ||

Liked 'em, they wore well and were a very neutral handling tire, but man were they expensive, and while they were brilliant in the rain, they actually seemed to fall off from a traction perspective in the dry. I probably won't run another set based on price as much as anything. Bridgestone BT021 - Wore like crap, lasted about the same, but the had decent grip even if they had very little feedback. Or maybe I'm just bitter on these because I paid full retail + M+B. Pirelli Strada - OEM tire, did fine. That is all. Lasted OK, rode OK. Nothing spectacular, nothing disappointing, just a tire. Conti Road Attack, wore super quick, frightening in standing water. The upside is they come up to temp quickly and they are nice and grippy. I'll have to be pretty hard up for a set of tires before I put another set on. Metz Z6 Interact - Still on the bike, haven't killed the set yet, so still up in the air on them. The profile on them is very aggressively oriented. Grinding the feelers off the peg still left ~3/8" of chicken strip on the rear. They seem to be wearing well so far. Tire profile takes a little getting used to as it starts out a little square up top, then works its way very quickly to a steep side profile. Makes for a nice stable tire in a straight line, then takes a little effort to get to turn in, then falls in very nicely. I was ready to take them off after 10 miles, but by 100 miles, I loved them. I'm currently running the Dunlop Roadsmarts on my other bike (Suzuki Kan-o-tuna.) The front is past the end of it's legal life, and the rear has maybe another thousand miles to go. They will probably be the next set of sport touring tires to go on the Uly. They do have a fairly triangular profile, so they like to turn in fast, (much like the Road Attacks.) The tread compound in the center of the rear is definitely HARD, which leaves a stepped wear pattern, which in turn leads to a kind of funky turn in near the end of their life. (Or maybe it is just the crappy road conditions at the moment.) | ||

well, the conti's look ok but I've put the Michelin's Pilot Road 2 on the rear and have 5k miles on it and dont see any noticable wear. when i was using the syncs @ 5k, it was almost time to switch em out. the front is a sync and have a pr2 ready ready to put on. |
