Total 2010 bikes built 3,232
Total Ulysses 322
Total XB12X 96

I was really only concerned with these numbers be3ing that I bought a 12X. Not sure of the rest of the breakdown. I am surprised that they actually made over 3000 2010 models. I didn't think they would have had that much time.

I never saw a single '10 model hit any floor in central Florida between Rossmeyer's 'mecca' out on I-95 and Seminole HD/Buell in Sanford along I-4.

Doesn't mean I was hawking the joints for them but as often as I went in, I found it odd that I never saw anything newer than an '09.

Those numbers come right from Buell administration. I would have to think they are reliable.

I want to know what to do with the one I got. Do I save it and pack it away... or ride the thing and enjoy. I may buy an 09 to ride and pack this away.

Even Jay Leno rides all his classics. Wouldn't it be odd to sell a zero mile ULY 10 years from now to a guy and he starts it and wheelies it off your property. Ride it! It was built to see the wide open spaces in this world not to cower in a corner of a garage.

Aren't 2010's built starting like Sept 09? Says whatever date on the frame by your steering post. Froggy told me that so it is true. My 09 is Mar 09 so there must be some '10's built in 2010. Only 96 X's...wonder what the actual build dates were.

Update, 59 black xt's in 2010.

My bike is number 69 production date Sept 2009.

I'm not sure exactly how the last 5 digits are configured. I would imagine most likely sequenced from the first Buell of the year. Does anyone else have any info on this?

Court, you there? Can you give some insight into this?

Hahahaha . . no idea on the boy or girl situation yet . . .

But here was "Dad" . . . what seemed like only days ago . . .

Note: That was the day that we were all riding in the dirt . . Erik Buell sprained and ankle . . . Mike Hale took a wild ride and it was the following morning that Jason Pridmore, on a pedal bike, shattered his leg and got put out for a year)

And . . . here was Dad at my graduation in May when he surprised me by showing up in NYC.

Moral of the story: If ya got little ones . . . hug'em and tell'em you love them everyday . . . they don't stay little long.

Oh my gosh . . . if it's a boy . . we're all in trouble!

Where do these numbers come from?
They seem high for the short period of time they had to do production.

Buell was producing about 1k bikes a month based on 2008 figures. Assuming they started production in July and didn't cheat and build some in June or earlier, thats still 3 full months of production.

That was the figures world wide from Buell. Figures came right from Kim at Buell. I would thin that this is as reliable source as any.

So the Uly was just about 10% of production. I had this impression that the Uly was the largest seller? I never saw a new one at a dealer which suggests to me that Buell didn't make enough Ulys to meet demand.

If I can be allowed to generalize, I suspect that the "typical" Uly rider (or potential rider) was a lot more willing to darken the door of a HD dealer than a "typical" sport bike rider. Or perhaps I'm projecting...

What am I getting at? I'm not sure exactly, but I'm putting together a hypothesis that it was the emphasis on sport and racing that led to HD killing Buell. I fully realize that it was the emphasis on sport and racing that made the Buells such great bikes. But I wonder now (in hindsight, I know!) if HD marketing and Buell could have mainstreamed the Buell product a bit? Given the success of the Uly line it just suggests to me that, out of the set of people who were not alienated by the very idea of HD in the first place, there was a larger market for touring, standard and adventure type bikes than sport bikes. I wonder if a touring/standard/adventure Buell might have been able to divert enough funds to keep Erik happy working on racing and sport bikes as a sideline?

I wish Erik every possible success in his new venture and I'm super grateful that his innovations resulted in the awesome machine sitting in my garage now. But I remain extremely bummed that there are no longer any American made motorcycles that interest me.

I would love to see detailed year by year numbers, I got a funny feeling the Uly was dwarfed in 2008MY by the 1125R. I recall that something like 40% of the production for 2008 models was just 1125R's.

Atoms,

I would tend to agree with you, I think that Uly riders would be more willing to go into a HD dealer than a sport bike dealer. Also that more HD riders would convert to a Uly than an 1125.

I was a sport bike rider years ago, converted to a Harley rider as I matured... then I realized I hadn't matured that much and bought a lightning to compliment the HD. With both in the garage I had the best of both worlds. Then I realized I liked riding the sportier bike more and the Buell got more miles.

Then realizing that I want to do some touring and while the lightning was doable, a Uly would be better. Now I have all three.

I agree with Froggy that Buell thought that the 1125 was going to be their big new seller. While I believe sales were good, I agree that more emphasis should have been on the Uly. I have gotten more respect on my Buells from Ducati/BMW riders than any HD rider.

I think that timing for BUELL/HD introducing the 1125, and the issue of the economy tanking just plain old sucked! With HD hurting so bad from poor financing policies Buell was doomed. I don't understand why... but that is the decision that HD made. I really don't agree with it especially after watching Danny Eslick with the championship at NJMSP... I think 1125 sales would have increased a lot this year.
