Funny thing is.....the difference will become clear when you go to one of the different tires!

Makes you go "now I see what they mean!"

K - if you want to try out the 616s, come on by. I have a fairly fresh set (scrubbed in, 'bout 800 miles or so) on my '06 with '07 fork springs. My old set (5k rear, 10k front) ran the Dragon, and all around the area, with no problems at all. Ask Vern, he and I were chasing each other through the hills for a couple days down around TWO. I used every last millimeter of those tires and they never gave out. Then I rode home on 'em, still no problems...but they were TOAST by the time I got back!

Towards the end of the fronts' lifespan (10k miles) I was getting a little...not quite headshake, more like head-jiggle ("I've been mostly dead all day and a little head-jiggle is supposed to make me *happy*?" sorry...). It was most noticable on decel - don't let go while trailbraking. It never turned into a weave or anything, though. They have always been well-planted for me, and as noted above they ROCK in crappy conditions!

But...come on by and take a spin if you want. I've got the watershed right behind the house (fire roads), and I won't be riding in the near future (see "ATGATT or this" thread) anyway.

Rat I'm gonna take you up on your offer I'm getting more interested in the D616s and I would like to feel the better turing radius too. I want to try the D616s on pavement I have no doubt they will do good on the gravel. But I have to ride the pavement to get to the gravel. I will post another thread up on the Tail Section just like I did with the Colorado trip. I'm gonna get a better camera too. I'll be posting on Facebook as the trip goes along. Which means I'm cleared for take off on this new adventure! Got to start saving money NOW!

I ONLY use the Dunlop D616's on my Uly and they have worked out great! Good traction on both wet and dry roads and I get great mileage out of them also. 10,000 miles per rear and 20,000 for the front. I just change them at the 10,000 miles service appointments.

Those of you that get the shimmy with the 616's, is it mostly on rain grooved fwy's?
That's where I notice it not so much on black top like canyons and back roads. For me it's nothing scary just keep a lite grip when on fwy's. I really like these tires on gravel and dirt, and when airing down for the softer stuff they work very good.
You know a really good combo I ran for a Baja trip was Mt 60 on the front and 616 on the back. Good mileage with this combo.

K - I did fork springs, not the tripletrees. No steering change, just less brake dive.

You're still welcome to try the bike though ; )

Etenuly, I've done different tires on the X1 because the OEM Dunlops only last about 3,000 miles and are slicker than hell when cold. I have the OEM Dunlops back on they have a really good grip in warmer weather. I know the tires for on and off road are going to give me a new feedback. Its like hearing movie reviews then seeing it for yourself. I don't know where I would have went for information if it wasn't for Bad Web. K

K - for the tuber, I loveloveLOVE the Michelin PR2's that I put on the S2. Eventually, as they wear out their current tires, all the street bikes here (S2, S1W, her M2L, and maybe even the CR) will be wearing them. Awesome wear, good tip-in, great transitions...and great grip.

AVON Distanzias
NOpe. I will never put them on the bike again. On pea gravel (which is where I LOVE to ride) they cut out and chop in at the 48-55 mph range. What I mean is, when you are on gravel and in a sweeper and lean the bike in and cross lean out, the traction on the tires slips. It is not confidence inspiring. DAMN scary infact. Makes me have to slow down... which is not what I want to do when I am out playing.
Not the problem with the Syncs or the MT-60s. Havent run the 616's too many Uly guys were down on them for me to pony up for the expense.
Syncs will get you about 4-4500 miles
in a mixed used environment. The MT-60s will get you about 3200-4000 running more on dirt & MUD than pavement.
