I'm thinking of adding auxiliary lights and was wondering if there was a method for determining the maximum wattage I could safely add. If I add the lights on the existing 15 amp circuit that services the lights, I shouldn't have a problem adding two more 55 watt bulbs being that a 15 amp circuit should be able to handle up to 1440 watts safely. One rider replaced his headlights with two 100 watt beams, and I believe he has aux lights too. Keyword "deathray". Some of the posts might give insight on adding more wattage to the system. It's no problem adding Aux. lights to the bike, but it would be a BAD idea to run them through the factory lighting circuit like you're suggesting. The circuit is NOT made for it! Add a relay and be done with it. Here, I'll help you out: Relay Terminal 85 - splice into factory euro marker light wire (or tail light wire, or license plate light wire, or any other wire that has switched power when the key is on ON). Remember, unless you did the mod, the low beam turns off when you hit the high beam switch, so splicing it into the low beam may not be a good idea. Relay Terminal 86 - run to a switch, then to ground Relay Terminal 30 - run to your battery positive through a 10 amp inline fuse Relay Terminal 87 - run to the positive lines of your fog lamps. This summer I was running 2 55 watt aux. lights, the 55 watt low and the 55 watt high at the same time. At idle the ECU was shutting down the accessory circuit to conserve power. Off idle it seemed to be OK. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

This is what I use to "Estimate" what I can run. This is based on the '06 stator... later years the capacity was reduced.

Thanks guys, for the tips. I'll make sure that I run the new aux lights on their own circuit. I might also go slightly less than a 55 watt bulb - maybe in the 40s. I've been browsing the 12 volt outdoor flood lights at Home Depot and I've got some crazy ideas... Gamdh, Your chart rocks! Gamdh, you I believe you fudged up the decimal on the amps for the instrument panel. 24.8 Amps total adjusted.  So, that leaves a whole 10 amps extra, assuming your fan is running. MetalDude Only if you've made the headlight mod so both are on for High beams. Froggy... very possible.. did this a couple of years ago as an exercise, have messed around with it several times in the past.... thats why I make sure to hightlight 'Estimate'  for reference.. IIRC.. numbers came from several sources and some of them are truely estimates.
