That was posted in the 1125 board, the guy half assed that and didn't even adjust the belt after, so it will fall right off going down the road. | ||

well, I'm sure if I still had one I would test it.  Looks like a great story telling story, that starts with something like.... "Well, I had a few drinks, I was working in the garage, and........." | ||

I doubt it will fall off, having owned several of these things back in the day you could run some pretty loose stuff for a long time with out problems. All that belt turns is a small generator/alternator and the fan that is in the housing. They ran low rpm (less than 4200), in '68 they had 53 hp, in '69 or '70 it jumped up to 60 hp. To adjust the belt the two piece pulley came apart and shims would come out to tighten it. I backed a 40 hp VW woods buggy into a tree splitting the distributor cap in three pieces, and broke the rotor off of the shaft. With 1/4 of a roll of black plastic electrical tape it made it twenty miles or so back home. | ||

I bet that generator was good for around 25Amps total  Low current = low torque at shaft. I had a 100A alternator from a 1977 new yorker installed in my trusty old Dodge B200. That thing had two grooves for belts and i only had one belt. I had to tighten that with a lever against the exhaust manifold while my dad hit the bolts. I also had to grind a good amount of the aluminum chassis to make it fit in there Heater + stereo + roof lights + Christmas lights = fun! | ||
