I've been lurking for a while and ran into a problem I can use some help on.

I've seen several lowers installs on the X but haven't seen any on XTs. I found on the XT if you mount the memphis shades just below the upper fork clamps, no trimming is required for clearance on the lexan. However, the only way to do that on the brake line side is to remove the upper brake line mount and reroute the line below the shade bracket. If I don't, the bracket interferes the line between the forks and the master cylinder. The downside is that I have to zip tie the brake line to the fork since it now won't reach the bracket. Also, I noticed the clutch line rubs the inside of the shades clamp/tightening screw no matter where I mount the clamps.

Any suggestions? I might try tightening the curve of the brake line and squeezing it between the housing and the upper fork clamp like in this picture, but the line doesn't seem flexible enough and is too thick to do so.

I did see that post. It looks like you mounted the brackets angled down. I think I'll do that and file the inner edge. Seems to be the preferred method.

Let us know how it goes, Mnxb12xt. I have a set on order and will be following Myzen's model as well.

Well, I got them installed over the weekend. Once I got the brackets positioned on the middle of the thick part of the fork tube, it was just a matter of marking the acrylic, cutting with a coping saw and filing to fit. The only clearance issue I ran into was the bottom edge of the left shade would touch the top of the air scoop at full left lock. However, the brackets can rotate up and down a little bit which solved the issue. The clearance is about 1/8". Another possible issues now is the clutch cable. It comes very close to the threads on the screw that tighten the clamp around the fork tubes, but there doesn't seem to be any catching or binding. Nothing a little thick tape over the threads won't fix.

I'm trying to get these %$#^ Memphis Shades installed guys and I'm having problems. It looks like I'm going to have to cut out a lot of plastic. How much, in fractions of an inch did you cut, in depth and length?

How about the brackets? I am mounting with the stems, for lack of a better word, 'above' the bolts, as shown in the Memphis directions. Is that how you did it or did you flip them and have them below the bolts?

How far, in fractions of an inch, did you mount the clamps below the Triple Tree?

Any good close up pics? Ths.

Mine are about a half in under the tree, the cutout is about 3in. long and three quarter in deep. This lets it fit around the housing well.My clutch cable is just about up against the strap but haven't had any problems.
Hope this helps. You wouldn't know how to do the headlight mod for both lights to be on would you?Been trying to figure that out supposed to be easy. Dam if I know!

Should work on any X or XT.

Beemer: Do a search, as there are several threads about the headlight mod on this forum.

Beemer,

Thank you, and yes it helps. Actually I was fortunate and spoke with George (Eulysses), a guy who has really checked out shield and lowers effects on air turbulence, etc., and who is a big supporter of lowers for cabin comfort. I was doing it just as he had done his but before I started removing plastic I wanted to be sure I was on the right track. I'm really impressed with the Memphis parts and didn't want to mess anything up.

It turns out that because I use the XT's standard 'tall' shield, and not a big shield, the lowers won't help me much so I'm going to either sell them or put them away and not install them! All that for nothing but actually I learned some things!

Sorry, I don't know anything about the headlights but hopefully someone will jump in here and help you.

Unravels, Yes these Memphis lowers work on 09X's. In fact that is what George has.

You might be surprised how much difference the lowers make even with the standard tall shield. Try it. What are you out? Just the time it takes to install them.

I was one of the first ones pushing these. They cut out a lot of the buffeting, probably more so with the larger windshields like I have (26" Parabellum). I didn't have them until after I put the bigger windshield on, but there is so much air coming up from alongside the forks and airbox cover that I'm sure there will be a big improvement after installation, even with a smaller shield.
