Is it possible to flatfoot the Uly by trimming the width of the stock '06 seat? Or, even be able to plant the balls of both feet securely on the ground?

I've got a 32" inseam and can just about touch both toes on the ground when it's level, any drop off at all and I have to scoot to one side.

I like the roominess of the footpeg/seat relationship and I'm hoping to get more secure footing without sacrificing that roominess. Looking for feedback before bringing the seat to a local upholsterer, once the seat is trimmed it's hard to reverse.

Can't you find someone with a stock '08 seat and try it out before you perform surgery on yours? There are a few seat options available from Buell. Do a "search" on Bad Web, there are great pictures of the various combos.

Jessemc,
Sorry, I see you want to trim the "width" not height. That may work. I know if I scoot forward I'm a little more secure in my footing. Go for it and let us know how it works.

Yes, it is a very straight forward DIY job and you can achieve the custom results you are looking for. The important thing is to decide what changes you desire before you start and then slowly work towards shaping the seat to achieve those results. Take some test rides during the process to validate the changes.

In the mod I did to the stock '06 seat were: 1. to move the rise back a few inches for more room to move around and adjust position on long ride but still maintain the high peg to seat relationship which gives the great knee flex room 2. level the seat to stop the sliding forward and jammin up Mr Happy and 3. to round off the transition in the front "horn"" area so at a stoplight it was easier and more comfortable to balance the bike. I'm 6' 1" and 32" inseam and could not be happier with the results.
Check this thread for a start

Also, all this is done my removing foam from the'06 seat. IF you take to much it out is not hard to bond more foam and start shaping again. In fact most of the pro's cut out the stock foam and bond in newer foam with a better specification for comfort. For my needs the stock '06 foam is fine

That's a really helpful link, thanks, Firstbatch! The pictures give a really good idea of how extensively you modified the stock foam.

How "ill-fitting" was the stock cover/do you have a picture of the modified seat with the original cover?

Jesse, I don't think I have a picture of it complete......the stock covers goes back on fine, use some 3M 33 spray adhesive. The seams do not line up with the adjusted rise being moved back and fall on the left and right side. The OEM '06 cover is crap IMHO as the seams are to raised. Proper thing to do would be to install a new cover.....and that IMHO would take the efforts of someone skilled with upholstery.
I alternate on long trips between the seat with and without beads. Most long trips in the summer its beads all the way since they provide such good ventilation.

Someday I will get a custom cover made and be done. Next time I get a chance I will get a pic up on the OEM cover on this foam mod.

You could also take an inch of height out of the foam and get some lower aftermarket pegs to get the inch back. Precision Engineering has some really nice ones. They are a 2" drop but the stock ones are a 1" drop so your only gaining the inch. Here's a link: http://www.preeng.com/xcart/product.php?productid= 29&cat=0&page=1
