1. How do you tighten the painted mirror nut without marring it?

2. Are drive belts and/or motor mounts covered under factory and extended warranty's?

3. Can the 'tall' windshield work with the Laminar Lip as well as the 'short' shield?

4. Are the Strada's considered the longest wearing Uly tires?

5. Have any of you run Shinko tires, a Japanese tire that is supposed to be very good and a long wear tire?

Okay, I'll admit, this is a new tradition but if you have a minute throw out your 5 questions, or less/more, and we'll all learn something.

1. No idea
2. Probably, but you might have to argue for it.
3. No idea.
4. Ask 5 people, and you'll get 5 different answers. My longest lasting tire has been the Dunlop Roadsmart. It's down to the wear bars at about 7k. I'm replacing it with a Bridgestone BT-021 next week.
5. Lol, I've never heard anyone refer to Shinkos as "very good." The best anyone I know says is "very cheap." I do know one person who runs them on his FJR. He calls them "Shitkos" and says they're "good enough" but not exceptional.

Ths. Sanchez! Thank's for participating. Ah, honesty, nothing better! lol Good to hear that on the Shinko's. Don't you have some questions?

I'm too lazy to answer all of em but the laminar works well with the tall Zero Gravity screen (al least for me at 6 feet tall)

No. The longest-wearing are the Michelin Pilot Road 2 dual-compound.

You're welcome

Shinko Raven 009 rear just under 10k miles

Front tire

Would I buy another set? You bet, for the price they work just fine for me...

I generally wrap a piece of cloth on the nut, doesn't require anything any thicker than an old t-shirt, and use an adjustable wrench.

Lately I've just put the wrench directly on the nut and don't recall it's marred much.

Happy Thanksgiving

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Teeps, I've read of others being happy with the Shinko's as well.
That's what I've been doing Court, just hoped there was a better way since the 'feel' isn't too great with the cloth. Happy Thanksgiving to you as well, and all members.

Well, other than that 'good sport' Sanchez, thanks pardner, I wasn't able to 'lure' anyone in to start asking questions! lol Yeah, I had a bit of a selfish interest in hoping to learn things but I was also trying to add an interesting thread, honest.

What mileage have you gotten with other tires? I find it varies wildly based on riding style and even the area of the country people are in. I know people on this board have gotten 8-10k out of the same tire that only went to 7k for me.

Here are my 5 questions:

1. Do these KOSO mirrors fit our bikes? I searched eBay for "tuono mirrors" and came up with them:

http://cgi.ebay.com/KOSO-Mirrors-K1300-K1200-F800- F650-G650-Tuono-Mana-SXV_W0QQitemZ280416727015QQcm dZViewItemQQptZAU_Motorcycle_Parts_Accessories?has h=item414a23afe7

2. What's the best way to remove a frame puck without damaging the frame's finish?

3. What's the link to the Memphis Shades wind blockers? I can't find it on their site.

4. Does Buell sell heated grips individually (I only need the right one), or will I need to get the whole kit again?

5. Ok, I can't think of anymore questions. : p

Those are cool looking mirrors. I don't know if they'll fit though.

You heat the frame puck with a hair dryer and drive a screw driver through it and peel it off.

4950 miles on this 616 and I do plan on putting another one on this winter.

They may not last long but "some" traction on grass, gravel and mud.

the mirrors have a 10mm stud so they should fit although they don't supply the pitch, i belive it to be 1.25
i would recommend leaving the pucks on, i seen a xb fall in the parking lot and dent the frame, cheap insurance!
the part# for the right grip is n0051.1ak

1) Use the right size wrench
2) Yes; during factory warranty. I don't believe the belts are covered on extended warranties.
3) I have no idea.
4) I had a set last 12,000 miles. I put Dunlop RoadSmart tires on my XT. 6,000 miles so far, and I really like them.
5) You don't have enough money to get me to put Shitko tires on any of my bikes.

Thanks Crusty. It's good to get another good result on the Strada's. I've heard a lot of good things about those RoadSmart's as well.

Whoa! What bad things have you heard on the Shinko's? I 'do' recommend they change their name and take it out of play (lol) but have you heard/experienced bad things? Ths.

5800 on the stock Dunlops.
The Bridgestones (BT014/020) are working on 4k miles and the front is looking much like the Shinko at 10k...

Answered my own question on Memphis Shades. Tried before to find em on Dennis Kirk etc. This time I searched on MEP 5810 for the clear shades ($25) and MEM 9890 for the right mounting bracket ($40) and Voila! On their way...
Thank you BWB Buell fan Dio for the item #'s in past threads.

Cloth on the nut with a good crescent wrench.

Tires Dunlop D616 6,000 miles on rear, last 1,500 squirrelly. Grip good dry, ok wet, good on dirt. Front went 14,000, wobbly rain grove when new, strange tread wear(shape) after 10,000 miles.

Pirelli Scorpion Syncs 6,000 miles on rear, excellent traction great rain tire, ok on dirt. First several sets were excellent, when they ramped up volume to meet sales the quality fell off. 14,000 on front a little more wear shown on the left side(noted by several people). Handled good all the way through.

Michelin Pilot Road II 11,000 miles on rear, excellent grip from the dual compound wet or dry, not as good on dirt. Front still good after 10,000, long way to go. Handling on both ends excellent all the way through the tread life. Bike turns in faster/easier and gives much more confident feel than any of the others in the twisties. Cost about 20% more for nearly double the life. The only tires I plan to run for the foreseeable future.
