I've been lusting for Uly's since they came out. I've had a couple of false starts. Never did follow through. But a couple of months ago (Sept 28)I came across the deal I couldn't say "No" to.
I've had a VRod hanging around my neck for awhile. Love the power, the sound (with a D&D), even the looks. Just never liked riding for very long, or even commuting. Forget about a road trip (Did it a couple of times. OUCH). I knew I wanted something else, but didn't need 3 bikes in the garage (the little misses has a BMW F650GS. and YES I WANTED 3 BIKES IN THE GARAGE). Momma wanted me to get a BMW, so we could match. I thought the Tiger might be a good compromise. Went to look both over at a local BMW/Triumph dealer. Couldn't make the deal I wanted on the Tiger. And really, as beautiful as that engine is, it doesn't speak to me the way a V-twin does. BUT...... they had an '08 XT for $81xx, 7100 miles. Momma was NOT happy. After some haggling we ended up at $7200. Remember this was Sept., 2 weeks before the day. I was (still am) very happy with the deal.
I'm on the side of forget about HD support, I'm planning on riding it till it's not worth scrap metal.
Glad to finally be in the family. It was (kind of) worth the wait.

congrats on the xt and welcome. hopefully the wife will warm up to it. has she been on it yet.

i'm like some of these people that having a buell was a good thing but now that their shutting down, wanting everything buell is tearing a big hole in the pocket just to have as many reminders around to keep from getting to depressed. can't take it with me so might as well enjoy life to some degree.

btw, don't know where your located in conjunction with f_skinner, but if you get a chance to hook up out there, he is no doubt great people.

Welcome to the journey of the orphaned addicts with silly grins. Your lady will like the two-up on that bike.

I think she'll be fine, once she gets a ride on the back. But, she'd rather be on her own. Reality is, she's only good for a couple of hours anyway, pillion or rider. Not even 45 min on the VRod "pad".

She thought the V was sexy. (Originally we bought it for her, as it was one of 2 HD's that she could flat foot. Once she actually rode it it scared her, weight and power, so we bought a lowered GS and I "got stuck" with the V. She's ridden for years off road so the GS is a better fit for her.) To her the Uly looks like it SHOULD be an orphan, although she LOVES her GS. I don't necessarily disagree with her. The real beauty of the Uly is in its simplicity and how well it works.

I don't normally buy used, too lazy to look. But this deal may have changed my mind, forever. I was looking at the same bike just about a year ago, new on the floor, for $13,+++. I'd say 7100 miles was worth $6k.

Yeah...just before our "parents" were killed in the recession my buddy bought a used 07 Uly for $7K with side bags. He could care less what happened. Just loves to ride it. And there are no more of them...so value will stick around. Seriously...the two-up ride really helped me a lot getting my Uly. Take your girl for a ride. I see new romance on the horizon!

6 days before the awful news is when we bought by boy his 07' ULY with outdoorsman bags and top case, comfort kit and 07 service manual. 7,900 miles. $7000. My son just loves that bike. Probably could of got it for less but who cares. Runs like new.
