was zipping along abt 75 and the check engine lite came on for abt 1 second. seemed the engine cut out, but then restarted and ran ok the rest of the way home. never happened before and rode 100 mi + today and no problems. about 27k on the clock. any ideas?

First thing I would do would be to check to see what code was thrown.

Check what points? The grounding points? It couldn't hurt to check and clean them.

There is a number of things that can cause what happened, bad ground, damaged wire, broken ecm among other things.

You can get the dongles for pretty cheap at American Sport Bike.

Like froggy says, there are lots of reasons why the light would pop on... But I would start with the basics and work your way up.

If you don't have a service manual, I would pick one up. Mine has been very helpful in repairing & trouble shooting.
