Greeting from Africa, Was able to put a deposit down on a XT and will pic it up when I get home.

I did a search and couldn't find any good answers so I'll just go out and ask:

1. How is the XT offroad, can it keep up with the Vstrom and other road oriented dual sporters?

2. Has anyone done an X to XT conversion?

Thanks

1) The XT isn't really made for offroading, but it works just as well as any other bike with 5" of ground clearance and street tires.
Swapping on some more dirt-capable tires would make a huge difference. The scorpion syncs work better and still get decent mileage. And the Pirelli MT60-R's work great offroad, but the mileage is pitiful. That being said, I took mine on a dirt/gravel road ride and it did fine. But I didn't try anything hardcore or fast. We just cruised around to see what there was to see.

2) The X's have completely different forks. So while you could convert them, you'd need the triple trees, forks, and shock. Also the XT has the taller windshield, as well as the bags as standard.

Why would you want to do the conversion? What are you trying to gain? That'll help us determine what needs to be done.

Congrats on the new bike!

The XT is fine for gravel, dirt, forest service and similar roads. I've ridden single track in the woods with mine and probably won't do that again. Ground clearance is an issue, but I found the transmission to be a bigger issue because of having to slip the clutch and bang the gear box in and out. I'm running Syncs and like them better than the Strada's for both off road and street. I was undecided about the XB9 primary swap and it's out for now as I'm planning on a lot of long distance riding next summer.
YMMV.

Not looking of an offroader, BUT I have a bad habit of going left when I should have gone right and taken some interesting trips, I got the ULY because my other choices BMW GS and Vstrom....well just don't appeal to me.

Thanks for the info
