I've been wanting to do this for some time. I removed the guts from a turnsignal and installed a Wallymart 55 watt fog light. Wires feed up through the stalk just like OEM. I think it turned out real nice and I'll do the other tomorrow. Sealed in with black silicone. Vented at the bottom front. Oh yeah, I've moved the turnsignals to the hand guards. They are two bulb marker lights from O'Rielly Auto for less than 4 bucks each. The left side fog light setup works well also and is nothing but a 3/8" carriage bolt 4" long and a bent piece of aluminum. Very solid mount.

That fog light in the turn signal housing looks fantastic!

Price sounds right, and it looks fine. I just hope you have a couple of extra turn signal housings, in case those 55W bulbs turn out to be mini ovens...

Good luck!

Not a bad idea. I especially like the idea of the relocation of the blinkers out there in the open!

Looks great - fantastic concept. I've always liked the idea of turn signals on the mirrors. Put a set on my FXDL and it cleaned up the front end a lot, but never thought about driving/fog lights.
Might run those lights to my rather large side cases and double up on the blinkers along with getting running lights.

I have seen those lights before...
I really like the turn signal set up. Looks good.

I did the Optronics from Wmt ($16.00) with the XP light mount and an aluminum bar. The light from these is too diffuse for fog and I need to drill a hole in the bottoms for drainage.

The beauty of the Optronics lights is the flexibility that the MR16 lamp provides. There are many alternative lamps. The ones that come stock in the Wal-mart package are 55 deg wide beam floods. Put some 24° Narrow Floods in place and they will work great in fog condition. Lamps are like $8 a pair. Or try some of the MR16 LED lamps that are available, albeit a bit pricey.

I mounted my Optronics low and they work great.. Simple stud mount off the fender mount.

Electraglider_1997, nice modification and write up. Thanks.

Have you tried them out yet? Even with the time change I have been riding to work in the dark. I have seen a lot of deer but so far only one jumped out in front of me. I had the PIAAs on but if I did not I would not had seen him. I really need to get something better or more of the same and think that modification is right on the money. I would be very interested to here your assessment of them.

Electraglider_1997, how are the lights working out for you? Did you have a chance to try them at night?

They work OK. They are probably not going to compare with HID lights by any stretch but they sure look neat. Theses babies are more for lighting my bike up then for lighting the roadway up. I don't think they cast much of a forward beam but they light up the sides of the road better for sure. I really like having the turnsignals up on the hand guards though. Spreads the signals out where no one should not understand which way I'm turning. Price was really right too. About 4 bucks per signal.

Electraglider_1997, thanks I am going to look into the HIDs as well but I really like that setup you have. I need enough light to fry the critters on the road that love to jump in front of me.

I do not have a Uly yet but I have been riding f_skinner's Uly and have it for a month or so (it is a long story). It is a 2009 with 12K miles. Looks like he was correct when he said you were the man to talk to with any questions.

I have first right of refusal on buying it. It is a lot different from my S3 LOL.

I live on a ranch and I have a good 15 miles of dirt to go through. The S3 does ok (I also ride dirt bikes) but the Uly is really great on the sandy roads.

I have seen a lot of good ideas on lights and will read a little more. Thanks for the write up and pictures.

Doc,
Semper Fi.
F_skinner came up to me at 2008 homecoming and said hi. I remember him telling me that he just about froze leaving Colorado in 30 degree weather but endured to make it out of the cold weather as he rode east toward Wisconsin.

Don't know much about the 09' ULY but I'm sure it is a great bike. 12,000 miles is nothing. If you buy it, you'll not regret it. Is Skinner getting out of the Buells?

No he is not but he is not on the BadWeb anymore, at least for a while. He has some things to take care of. I cannot get a hold of him half the time but he told me to not be afraid to post and ask stupid questions LOL.

I talked to a couple of my other rider friends and they think 12K is a lot of miles LOL. I know better and I know how Frank takes care of his bikes.

Anyway, I do not want to do anything to the bike yet but while the PIAAs are good they are not what I expected.

My son and I took our bikes out tonight to do a better test with our lights. Bottom line is mine aren't worth a hoot and his are great. Both are WalMart and cost (< than 20 bucks) the same but his are 3.5" diameter and cast one heck of a beam forward and are blinding when he rides his bike behind mine. Mine look neat but do very little, so don't waste your time with them. The 3.5" ones really work well. Don't know how they will hold up but mine have been on my bike in their original form for better than a year before I modified them and they still work fine.

Some picture their lamps mounted low on the fork lowers near the axle. I would think that the jarring of the road would be very rough on the light filaments. Higher up mounts have the suspension of the forks to smooth out the jarring of the road, not so on the fork lowers.

Sorry, did I miss it? Which lights does your son have? And a couple pictures of them would be appreciated too!

I was hoping to go to the local auto parts stores and walmart and pick up as many <$30 pairs of fog lights I could. Then do a full comparison and write up about them. Then return all but the one pair I'll keep.

I don't know if I'll actually do it or not, but it was a thought.
