Author Message   Ulykan Posted on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 - 07:38 pm:        After a good open highway run my 08XT idle is nearly 2000rpm when I stop. Last weekend the idle was at 2000 when I got home after a 100 mile ride and didn't return to normal even after waiting for 2-3 minutes. Instead it continued its high idle without even slowing down. This actually began several weeks ago after the re-flash and comfort kit install. I tried a TPS reset several times but it didn't help. Urban riding does it too but it generally only gets up to about 1400 or a little faster then after a few seconds it backs off to "normal". My dealer says that they will charge me if I take it to them. Since the ECM is closed loop and you can't manually adjust the idle is there anything that can be done to correct this problem? Isn't the bike still under warranty?   Swampy Posted on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 - 10:16 pm:        Before you do anything, clean your battery connections, and clean your battery grounds. Mine was acting up with a raised idle, neutral light wouldn't come on, and it wouldn't start unles the clutch was pulled in.   Rwcfrank Posted on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 - 10:48 pm:        I had the same problem one day when I accidentally upshifted a bit to far and the selector was in between neutral and 2nd gear. There is a sensor of some sort that changes the idle. Also, the idle goes up when you pull in the clutch lever (on 08 or newer). Try it some time, put the bike in gear and slowly let out the clutch a couple times and you will see the idle raise so the bike doesnt die.   Pkforbes87 Posted on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 - 01:17 am:        Does it return to the normal 1050 rpm after a few seconds of the abnormally fast idle? If not, will it drop down to the normal 1050 rpm after you drag the clutch a little bit? If that's how it's acting then it sounds like intake gaskets. To test the gaskets, start the engine and spray brake cleaner at the intake manifold between the heads. If the engine revs then you've got a leak. If rpms stay the same then the gaskets are good and your problem is somewhere else.
