Picked up my new 09 XT on Saturday. I had them install the comfort kit and download. I only got about 300 miles this weekend but I freaking love this bike.
Here it is...

whats your opinion on the comparison between the 07 and 09 engines? I know there were a few pretty major updates to engine internals - how do they affect power, rideability, etc?

nice XT btw! it's identical to the one I picked up a couple weeks ago.

Thanks Guys!

As far as the engine goes, I don't notice anything really. I doubt you would feel a larger crank pin or updated cam compartment anyway. The XT is still being broken in too, so I've been taking it easy so far. I could see how the engine updates would affect reliability but I hopefully wont find that out for long time.

Pkforbes87, how do you like the tall windshield? The wind seems to blast me right in the face. I'm thinking about switching to the short windshield, I've never heard anyone complain about that one.

I bought an XP a few weeks ago with the tall windshield to. I put one on my 06 X because of the wind. Those two bikes look like they belong in a garage together

I'm really impressed with the XT's suspension. It's so much smoother than my Lightning. I can't wait to take it on a long trip somewhere.

Funny seeing this because I'm tempted the other way - ie. to add a Lightning to my XT. Hmmm, I wonder if they're being discounted too. : )

I'm with you on the windshield. The shorter one is better imo.

whats your opinion on the comparison between the 07 and 09 engines?

I have an 05 XB12 and an 09 XB12 and the difference is very noticeable. The 09 is substantially smoother with much less vibration.

The power isn't a fair comparison because the 05 has exhaust and filter upgrades.

Mike are you sure you don't have a bad mount or something? I don't see how the engine upgrades would make "substantial" difference. Maybe the fueling is different making it smoother? My Uly might vibrate a little less but I just figured it was due to a bigger chassis, etc.

Like you said though, my 07 has a pipe, filter, and a little tuning through ecmspy so a power comparison isn't really fair.

With regards to vibration, I prefer my X1 to the XT. It vibrates more, as in more movement, but it feels like a lower frequency vibration. The Uly has this high frequency buzzing type of vibration, especially in the 2500-3000 rpm range. It's nothing unbearable but it's definitely more annoying than any vibration from the X1.

That kind of surprised me since the X1 has a 1250 kit with 10.5:1 pistons (which added vibration compared to the stock 1200 10:1. It's also got all new isolators, but so does the brand new XT.

Oh well, they are completely different machines and I'm in love with both of them.

Phild1203, they just do somehow. I noticed the same thing on the newer bikes.

I guess maybe I should take the Lightning back out for a ride comparison. I haven't been on it since I bought the XT.

Sell the Lightning and get an 1125, then 20 years from now, your XT will only have about 200 miles on it ; )

Haha well I'm already closer to 500 miles on the XT. If the insurance on the 1125R wasn't so much more than my Lightning then I probably would consider picking one up.

Tell me about it, I spend more on one month for just one of my 1125's than I do for a year on my XB.
