Hey EG97, I haven't been around for a while but was quite regular here for a spell. At any rate...Last October I bought an 09 12X and had heard some negative things about the Buell branded Hepco & Becker hard cases. So, I ordered all the mounting hardware for the cases at the same as the bike wich I recieved in December. I ordered the top of the line most goodest luggage H&B had to offer as well from H&B's US supplier. As of yet I am still using bungees and Ortlieb Dry Bags because my cases still aren't here. The supplier has recently contacted me to tell me that I can expect them sometime in mid November. That's it, a 13 month backorder to Germany. I certainly hope I like them.

I have four coming. They are Hepco&Becker's Aluminum Exclusive line/models. I have both a right and a left 40 litre and both a 30 and 45 litre top box so I can be a bit more adaptable. I can hardly wait. The only reason I added the 30L top box was that over the years time I saved a bit more money than I needed and figured it would come in handy on those NYC lane splitting trips as it is smaller than the 45L.

Nice....

You say these will fit into the standard Uly mounting brackets??????

A year! What were they doing...mining the aluminum?

Hey Snub, I'll try to explain it as best I can. Buell specified Hepco & Becker side and top cases for the Ulysses. Somewhere in the deal they made Buell forbid Hepco & Becker from making mounts to fit the Buell/Ulysses. I guess that Buell just wanted all of the action on them. So... after doing some research and asking some questions I found out that ALL Hepco & Becker cases mount the same. So this meant that the part of the mount that connects to the case would be the same no matter what bike the other side was bolted to. Since I was splurging on a brand new bike that I couldn't afford I may as well go for the top of the line cases that I couldn't afford too. I had read about and heard about some problems with the Outdoorsman and Junior line of cases wich are the ones Buell uses. That helped with my decision also. Plus with the Alum/Excl cases the tops lift off or are at least hinged on the top so you can open them up without all yo stuff falling on the ground. I will give a detailed report including pics. as soon as I get them. As for the year thing...I don't know what they were doing but I had my little heart set on them so I rode it out, I think.

Hi Skin;

I was just curious. I was also kind of kicking myself.....I hadn't even thought to look for different bags from Hepco. Makes sense that the mounting would be the same, easier for them. The Germans' are crazy for efficiency!

Pleas post pics! By the way....what kind of money are we talking? Did the US importer help you out at all with the delay?

Wow those are nice bags. I real quick found a US dealer for HB, I'm digging some of their other aluminum ones as well, those exclusive ones are $$

Ching, ching baby. I'm pretty sure the price for all four is, are you sitting down ? $1970.00 plus shipping. The supplier offered to help me out but I refused as I do believe the delay was no fault of his own, and in this economy he doesn't really need to be giving stuff away. I actually plan on buying more really cool expensive stuff from him. As I have said earlier, I have been told that all H&B cases will mount to the Buell mounts. This has not been confirmed yet. I will certainly let all of you know as soon as I know.

According to that supplier website all the H&B cases and mounts are the same, so I think you're good to go. I'm really liking those cases, I wonder if anyone would want to buy the factory ones off my bike... hrm. : )

Unreal, I am a very particular prick and I always want the bestest stuff there is for me and my bikes. They are even going to cost me more as I plan on having them powdercoated black at GrandStand. I imagine that if you subtract the money from selling a good set of plastics the aluminum ones wouldn't be too expensive. Have you ever checked out advrider's website ? there you can probably get reviews on several different aluminum cases. The main reason I bought the Uly was to take it up to Alaska and check out the Arctic Circle, I figure with top shelf bags they will be able to take the abuse and protect the bike when I drop it.

Tileman;
Nice setup. The fire service uses Pelican cases for all kinds of stuff, they kick ass!

BTW.........Skin

It was a rental. The plastic side bags hold up under load. It fell over in the parking lot just prior to this picture...oops!

It was a great trip. You will love it!

Yo Snub, That's what I'm talkin' 'bout. Did you go all the way to the end of the road ? I can hardly wait to go. I'll be going solo though the insignifigant other isn't invited. Then in 2011 hopefully it's the IOM TT and Europe proper. I'll invite the little (yeah huh) woman on that one I think.

Skin;

We turned around there. I wanted to go to Atigun Pass but we had reservations at Chena Hot Springs and there was no way we would have had enough time.

And

By that time (on the Dalton) I was ready to turn around! There was road work all over and the "highway" was in it's typical poor condition. My wife was a nervous wreck so that didn't help either.

In hind sight Chena wasn't all that special so we should have made reservations in Coldfoot (not that that's a resort or anything). Oh, well...that just means we have to go back, right?

I would highly recomend a couple of days in McKarthy if you have the time.

Another Dalton Highway pic

I can't wait to go back!!!

Pardon my spelling......McCarthy. Anyway, it's just a cool tiny town literally in the middle of no where! We didn't have time but you can take tours of the Kennicott mine. Hike to a glacier, etc. etc.

Our itinerary was too aggressive. We had 15 days with the bike but only spent more than one night in one spot. There are tons of things to do and see EVERYWHERE you go so allow time to check things out

http://www.steliasguides.com/mccarthy.htm

You had mentioned ADVrider. Check out the Alaska section, they have great info and tips. A great bunch of guys. Another awesome place to go is Dawson City Yukon Territory. The Dust to Dawson ride / rally / motorcycle extravaganza is a good time. I'll have to add more AK pics to my photobucket account.

I didn't mean to hijack your thread, I'm just envious of your trip.

If you insist....

We rented a Uly from Alaska Rider Tours (www.akrider.com) and did a "self guided" tour. We told them where we wanted to go and the type of places we wanted to stay and they made all of the reservations. They gave us a nice booklet with daily maps and points of interest.

About half way through I noticed that the left rear wheel bearing wasn't looking good

so I called AK Rider and they made arrangments to swap out the Uly. The only thing they could gave us was a.......600cc Vstrom!

They took care of us price wise in the end and we were able to continue our trip with VERY little delay.

some various pics....

After our day on the Dalton Highway (after it had rained)

A glacier in Thompson Pass ("the snowiest place in AK" with 551.5 inches of snow per year!!!!!) Not far from Valdez

Another of the Dalton Highway

Some parts, like this one, are very nice. There are other parts that more than make up for it. We don't have any pics of the really nasty stuff. My wife couldn't relax her grip enough to snap a photo...LOL. She was a trooper, only complained a few times.

This isn't the Dalton but I thought it was an ingenious way to fix a road

Well, these are in totally random order and I'm not sure where each shot was taken but I'll note the place when I can.

Since you mentioned the Arctic Circle...
This is the road going to (in this case, coming from) the Dalton. It seemed to go on for ever.

In the area of the Circle

The pipeline on the North side of the Yukon River

The last fuel stop until Coldfoot, better top off. North bank of the Yukon

You can eat at the gas station but the flag lady at one of the construction areas told us about this place a little farther North, she said the food was better. It was good, one of the signs said "best burger North of the Yukon" hard to argue with that...probably not many burgers around. The bears like it too.

The flag lady...facing South. We were waiting for the escort vehicle to take us through the construction site. She waved us to the front of the line so we didn't have to eat too much dust.

unknown....

This is on the Parks Highway near Denali NP

Just East of Fairbanks. Watch out for these guys! they come out of no where.

Ok, more tomorrow.
