So ive got the Zumo 550 which I absolutely LOVE, and to make things even better I have XM radio but sometimes I lose reception and dont have music to listen to for some time.

So my dilemma is how in the world can I convert my music to MP3 format so that my Zumo can read it?
I have Windows media player and Itunes, but cant figure out how to convert the files to MP3.

Do I need a different program? Someone please help this computer idiot out!

It sounds like you need to send out the FROG signal. It's kinda like the bat signal but not gay as "Frogman" wouldn't be caught dead wearin' tights.

I read this last night from my phone while lying in bed. I didn't have a solution at the time because I was too tired.

First we need to find out what type of file they are, probably .AAC knowing Apple.

Browse to where your music is stored, right click on a file and click properties. It will say something like "File type: Music File (.AAC)"

Anyway from there its just a matter of converting it to MP3, which I don't know how to do at this time.

I'm sure there is probably a easier version of converting them than this, but if you create a group of songs (playlist or album) and burn to a CD you can select the option to burn them as MP3 files. You will be able to fit more songs per CD as MP3 files. Then copy them to your pc's harddrive or directly to your Zumo

Jk, the program that Dcc posted appears to be able to convert the most popular formats to MP3, so its just a matter of figuring out how to use that program at this point.

If you're already using iTunes, go into the preferences, and where it says "When you insert a CD" click "Import Settings."

Make sure the top menu is set to "MP3 Encoder."

Now either convert files from your cd's, or select the files to convert in itunes and under the "advanced" menu select "convert to mp3."

You should be able to drag your new mp3s from the itunes window to your zumo.

Also, for free software go to www.download.com where you can find file converters among hundreds of other useful things like PDF converters. If you need assistance please let me know. I can convert a file and take screen shots at the same time and email it to you as a PDF or Word doc that you can walk through step-by-step.

haha I was wondering when someone was going to comment on my frog signal.

Does anyone have issues with their Zumo recognizing an SD card? Ive got my mp3 files on my SD card but my Zumo work recognize the card, do I need to have my Zumo docked in the mount for it to read the card? And yes the Zumo is updated.

I am pretty sure it will work out of the mount. I know there was an issue with (all SD devices) that if you are using a card larger than 2gb that they wouldn't work, but the newer Zumo software fixed that last I heard, but I only have a 2gb card so I never had that issue. Do you have the music in the correct folder? I recall something about the Zumo being picky about it. I will look over on Zumoforums.com and see.

Ok, you need at least firmware 3.3 for the SDHC cards (larger than 2gb) to work, and the more folders you can break it up into the better as it speeds up load time. Zumo will only recognize the first 1000 songs it finds.

Oh and if you haven't yet, get an account on Zumoforums and read a bunch of threads! : )
