I think I saw something about this topic a while back. Sorry if this is a repeat subject. I'm planning on a ride from Maryland to Key West Florida. What are somethings I need to have or do To an 06 Uly? This will be a 2up ride. I have already done a 12 hour ride with nothing but clothes. I just want to be safe, because I will be riding back also.

I'd say the minimum items are:

1- Working cell phone
2- Copy of the BRAN
3- Tire plug kit and small air compressor

Various tools and spares are up to you (belt, rear wheel bearings, relays, fuses, etc.).

Hugh nailed it. Not much can be done on the side of the road, so basic tools will be more that sufficient. Phone and a credit card are a must.

If you are a bit handy, a spare belt and tools to change it would also be nice.

Thank you for you input. I have one other question, what is the BRAN?

look on the main page. it lists everyone who has volunteered their services in the event that a fellow badwebber had trouble while on the road somewhere. i'm in the tampa area myself. if you have a way of accessing it while on the road, that is the easy way to have access to it besides printing the page of the area that you'll be traveling through. either that, make sure you have ulywifes phone # handy. that's really the only one you need to find out who can help you. she's the like the den mother and a great human being.

Change your rear wheel bearings BEFORE you go, if they haven't been upgraded yet.

Black bearings = good to go

Red bearings = swap or be sorry

I just did 2k miles on my '06, in 5 days in Oct (Buelltoberfest - down, around, and back).

Black rear bearings have been in there for about 5k miles, since the last tire change.

I took a tire plug kit with CO2 bottles, a spare clutch cable, hand tools (gerber multitool, the Buell tools, and folding hex- and torx-driver sets), dri-slide cable lube, a qt of syn3, a 2 gallon fuel can (no passenger so it sat on the tripletail), tent, folding camp chair, sleeping bag, clothes, tank bag, spare gloves...and the ONLY thing the bike used on the trip was fuel, from gas stations. NO unscheduled stops or outta gas problems, even on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

When I got back, I did put 2 new tires on (they were close-ish when I left) and a 10k service...but it was due, not showing problems.

Don't forget the iPod charger, lol.

When will you be in KW? Kim and I are headed down the week before thanksgiving...
