Well I just finished installing a Whelen LIN3 on my Uly in the place where the factory license plate light goes. Basically the LIN3 fits there so perfectly it was like the spot was made for it. I just need to put in a license plate light now and I'm good to go. I just need to make sure to do that tomorrow after work. Bright does not properly describe this light, eye of God is more appropriate. I also put in a flasher so it blinks 4 times then goes solid.

Can we see a pic or link to a vid with the light on? also, does it illuminate your plate when not braking? Thanks, jonsocal |

I want to see video too! And no it does not illuminate the plate at all, he's adding either a lighted plate frame or the lighted plate bolts. |

Car is ~25-30ft away. Stock lights Upgraded lights Video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pL4aDlVO8dw It is so bright I was laughing out loud when I hit the brakes, neither the video nor the photos do it justice. Looking directly at the light for too long is blinding... |

I've put two Wehlen TIR3 side by side, above the license plate,(Mounts between the plate light, and fender), and have them synced at 3 flashes each. I've had many people come up next too me at a stop light and say, "Damn, those lights are brite"! They are a little expensive, but getting rear ended would be expensive too. By the way, it kind of looks like a LEO, by the way it's set up. Sorry, I can't post vids. |

Hey Unrealtrip , what are you using to make it blink four times, then go solid? . |

+1 on the Whelens! http://i718.photobucket.com/albums/ww189/cheekiedu ckie/big%20trip%2009/IMG_0346humboldtsign.jpg I installed a bank of (amber, red, red, amber) Whelen Tir3 lights housed in something they call a Dominator (!). I removed the integrated flasher (that strobes everything) and installed a separate brake modulator I got from fleabay just for the brakes. The modulator has a mode that flashes a few times and then holds solid and has a timeout so you don't irk the cager behind you when in traffic. The modulator is tiny and fits easily in the spot vacated by the Whelen flasher unit. Turn signals are wired directly as the LEDs do not affect the loads enough to screw up the stock flasher. Wired it up with a standard trailer (3+1) connector for simplicity. http://www.whelen.com/pb/Automotive/ProductSheets/ Dash_Deck/Dominator_DominatorPlus_Series.pdf http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Smart-Car-BRAKE-LIG HT-FLASHER-BLINKER-36-Modes_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trk sidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem4a9593db77QQitemZ32 0337075063QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAcce ssories |

John: I'm using a $20 flasher I got from this place: http://www.3rdbrakeflasher.com/index.php?main_page =product_info&cPath=65&products_id=181&zenid=f6f71 0520b5cf4a062d1bfee36cd2892 It has many different flash modes and patterns, and you can set it to bypass the flash if you hit the brakes again within say 20 seconds so its not blinking constantly in stop and go traffic. Since it is in parallel to my primary non-flashing brake, I don't care if it flashes a lot, I'd rather be seen than dead. Skalilgai: WOW, that must be insanely bright, there is no way anyone has a defense if they rear end you while you're braking I like the idea of using the trailer harness for the plug a lot, I just used what I had on hand so little individual connectors, which I put inside split loom tubing. I'd like to go the plug route, but since it ain't broke... (Message edited by unrealtrip on November 04, 2009) |

Looks awesome! So, what do you think total cost is for mod? |

I've been rear-ended 3 times in a car and really don't want that experience on a bike. But is there a point when there's too much light? Yes getting the attention of some cell-phone yaking cager is one thing but possible retina burn may be taking things too far! For 20 bucks I am putting that flasher in though! |

Black: Not bad actually, $20 for the flasher, free shipping. $50 for the Whelen, $13 shipping, a few misc wires, connectors and some split loom tubing I already had, but that really would have only been a couple dollars. Plus whatever it will cost to light the license plate, but that should be extremely cheap and easy to do unless I go all out and buy a lit license plate frame which is around $20-30 I think. So probably between $90-100 total if I do the simple license plate light option. |

I also lost a car to being rear ended (I could see her coming, like it was in slow motion, as she dialed her cell phone). Fill us in on what you end up doing for a tag light. It would be nice if they would make one that also had a couple standard LED's that were dim that stayed on all the time, then put a piece of clear plastic across the bottom to light the tag. |

Towpro: "It would be nice if they would make one that also had a couple standard LED's that were dim that stayed on all the time, then put a piece of clear plastic across the bottom to light the tag." That's an awesome idea, I'm going to steal it. I'll measure the voltage and current on the tag light wires tonight, I doubt it will be in the range for a couple white LED's, so I'm thinking I can step it down with a voltage regulator to ~3-4v and use some resistors to drop the current down into the 25mA range or so. I'm electronically challenged however, took it when I was a freshman in high school looooong ago, so if anyone knows of a better way definitely post it. Otherwise, I think I can just get a rectangle of polycarb at Tap plastics, drill out some holes the size of the LEDs, epoxy them in place and put that between the license plate frame and the base so the edges of the frame will hide the LED's and all you'll see is the tag edge illuminated. Forgive the crude illustration (Message edited by unrealtrip on November 04, 2009) (Message edited by unrealtrip on November 04, 2009) |

1 or 2 of these glued under the Whelen should light things up. Just marker or paint the case black. http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/comme rce.cgi?product=BARS#LBM2 |

Well I ordered up some prewired white LED's with resistors already added for 12v use. I'm going to try for that side-illuminated piece of polycarbonate first, if that doesn't work out, then I'll likely just stick one or two into the Whelen casing pointing down if I can get them to fit; if not well I guess I'll see what I can come up with then. |
