Here's the story, I was riding my Fat Bob and came to an area where the pavement ended, dirt and gravel road from there. As I was turning around to head back on the pavement (as to avoid the unimproved roads) I realized I had purchased the wrong motorcycle. Had I been riding a Uly I wouldn't have thought twice about continuing my journey over the dirt and gravel roads. In short I just wanted to introduce myself as a new Uly fan. I really want to get a new 09 or 10 XB12x. I plan to call Gail's H-D in Kansas City tomorrow to see if they have any in stock or can get me one and what their price point is. They are the closest Buell dealer to me. Hopefully I can sell the Fat Bob first but if I find an X for the right price I might just have to get one while the gettin is good. | ||

I bought a new 1125CR a couple of weeks ago and I've already had that happen on a couple of rides. "If I was on my Uly, I could keep going right here." | ||

I rode my '88 FLHS down quite a few dirt roads. I never had any problem with it. I'm not saying don't get a Uly, the Uly is a Great motorcycle. If you get one, you'll absolutely fall in love with it. It handles better, has great brakes, and eats corners like you wouldn't believe. AND it puts a big ass grin on your face while doing it. But you CAN ride a Fat Bob down a dirt road. It just isn't as much fun. | ||

I'm not saying it's not possible to ride the Fat Bob wherever I want. I just really want a Uly (especially after reading how much you guys love them) for the versitility and fun factors. The Harley has become quite bland to me anyway. | ||

you won't regret getting the uly x or xt. although the xt isn't as much an off road bike which doesn't bother me. if i was actually into dirt anymore then that's what i would get a bike for only. i just wished i lived closer to the mountains to enjoy the buells more. | ||

Congrats on the decision to go with a Uly! You won't regret it. Ask for Andy when you get to Gail's. Be sure to tell him that Shawn told you to ask for him. He $hould take care of you!  We've bought our last two Buells from him. | ||

That sounds great, I've spoken with Andy a couple of times this year. Hopefully he can get me into an X. Fingers crossed. Do you guys think it's crazy of me to think a dealer would take my Fat Bob in on trade for an X and maybe plus some gear? (Message edited by pizat on November 02, 2009) | ||

Riverfront HD in Lawrence, Ks. still had an '09 X saturday afternoon, according to the mother store(Topeka HD). Salesman told me $8000. Alef's HD in Wichita still had an '08X on the floor tagged at $8195 yesterday (sunday). | ||

Went for a 523 mile tour yesterday. One road I had picked out on my atlas had a great squiggly look to it and was shown as paved (Rancheria Rd between Bakersfield and Wofford Heights,Ca). It was paved- for about 3 miles at each end. The 25 or so in between were dirt with a little gravel in places and quite a few ruts (recent rains). Mr Uly and I had a great time and surprised a couple of quad riders to boot. Man I love this bike. I can't bear the thought of replacing it with something else. I just know I'd be disappointed. | ||

Idaho_buelly- yes there are. I will explore soon. I did this ride as a last-minute thing and used much the same route as I have before (except Rancheria Rd). Next time I'm taking a couple of days and getting away from the familiar (not that there's anything wrong with the several hours of twisties I was on). | ||

Yeah you can ride a big twin Harley on dirt roads, at 15-20 mph. Much more and you beat yourself and the bike up. Not knocking it, did it a lot and aiming to have a Harley big twin again. But on my Uly I can traverse the same dirt roads at 35+ mph with comfort and security. | ||

Or keep both, if you can. I've got a Street Bob which is a pretty good yin to my Uly's yang (or is the other way around). Sometimes it's fun to just sit back and rumble around town. Then, when I get on the Uly, it feels new again. Of course, if you saw the recent episode of "South Park" about Harley riders, you may think twice. It was hilarious. |
